Default Give me some ideas on gear placement!

In a couple of weeks I'm getting my my new plasma (Panasonic TH-50PX80U), Onkyo 606, and Polk Monitor series speakers. I made a basic design on what I would like my overall setup to look like when it's finished, but I think it could be better with some help from you guys. Not too sure about where to place the surrounds since my living room is oddly shaped. I would very much appreciate it if you could take a second and look at the diagram in my HT Gallery and tell me if this will work, and if there are any changes to the speaker placement you would recommend. I know it's only a diagram, but it's pretty precise as far as dimensions go. Viewing distance from the sofa is just under 9 feet. Let me know what you think...

Given the layout of the room and the placement of the window, door, etc., I think your diagram lays out the only logical strategy for placement. There are other ways to do it, but you've found the best approach.

I have a much smaller room with greater challenges and I got a 7.1 system together in there. Where there's a will, there's a way.

I would toe you're front's in 2 to 4 degrees & the surr. should be out to the sides more !

I guess my only real concern is the placement of the surrounds. I have 6 cats, so i may have to go with the 50's for the surrounds simply because if I go with 30's/stands there's a good chance they will get knocked over. Maybe I could wall mount them, but that may or may not be a good idea for this setup. Thoughts?

I understand and definitely agree with you. My only problem is where my front door is located. I could perhaps place the left surround between the lazyboy and the wall near the door and the right surround in the other corner where the small wall runs into the staircase. But since they wouldn't be equally spaced wouldn't that be a problem?

Can you shift everything over so you're center listening position is centered between the surr. ,Sure it might be A LITTLE off center in room ,But would sound better, then put you're surr. on wall (CAT'S) !!

I just went through setting up a 7.1 system a few weeks ago and I found dts.com and dolbydigital.com both to be very helpful and gave me some good options to look at.

http://www.dts.com/Support/Speaker_Options.aspx

http://www.dolby.com/consumer/home_e...oomlayout.html

hope these help you out
