Default King of New York blu

..just got this christopher walken movie I never knew existed (although it seems well known). I was really impressed by both the film and the blu ray. Has anyone else seen this one?

One of my favorite Walken movies and also one of my favorites from director Abel Ferrara.
Laurence Fishburne (back in the days when he was just plain ol' Larry) is excellent in this.
I'm curious to pick this one up on Blu.
My old Artisan SE DVD needs to be replaced.

ya it's great seeing the other side of Laurence Fishburne. and there's a little wesley snipes. I highly recommend the blu. The film looks its age, but in a good way. good commentary as well (but no christopher walken)

im not too familiar with Ferrara. i'll have to check out some more

Some good Ferrara flicks to check out are:

Bad Lieutenant
Fear City
Ms. 45
and Driller Killer

Not unlike King of New York, most of his films have quite controversial subject matter. He likes to view life from the darker, seedier side.
Ms. 45 is quite a harsh film at times.
Same with Bad Lieutenant.

Definitely worth checking out.

This is a classic. In some ways it's better than Scarface. Yeah I said it.

i love the film it seems to be a underated classic that most mafia or gangster film fans forget about or have never seen one of my faves i rewatched this one just last friday for the third time on blu and it looks amazing considering how old the movie is and would recommend this to anyone who is a fan of the genre and hasnt seen it yet.

besides Walken and Fishburnes performances I wasnt very impressed with the movie. No way is it touching Scarface in my opinion. Plot was very muddled. Conclusion left alot to be desired as well. KONY definitely has one of my all time favorite quotables though.

Thumbs up

For me, it was definitely a hidden gem...not your typical gangster movie but still I was pleasantly surprised...great PQ for an older film.

One of my all-time favourite crime movies to date, love it to bits. Wish the BD was region-free so I could upgrade here in the UK, but all online reports state it isn't. It took YEARS for the SE DVD to come out here in the UK, I imported the US one instead; I hold out no hope of the BD getting over here any time soon.

Also worth seeing from Ferrara, if you can find them:

Cat Chaser (adapting the Elmore Leonard novel with Peter Weller and a nude Kelly McGillis) - not bad, but there's supposed to be a MUCH longer workprint at Ferrara's house that has never seen public light.

Crime Story TV pilot - Ferrara shot episodes of Miami Vice, then did the pilot for this 60s crime saga from producer Michael Mann. Manages to make TV shriek with his style, rather than letting himself get completely declawed.

Body Snatchers - a more than worthy second remake, which actually feels much more like a further sequel to the original.

New Rose Hotel - one of three linked short stories cyberpunk godfather William Gibson made his name & mythos with, along with Johnny Mnemonic and the still-unfilmed Burning Chrome. Ferrara makes it more of a three-hander noir play than the original story, but imagine it set in the same world as Johnny Mnemonic and you'll see how it works. With Christoher Walken, Willem Dafoe and Asia Argento.

Still want to see his most recent, Mary - really interesting-looking trailer.

Is body snatchers before or after the donald southerland version? How does it compare? Invasion of the Body Snatchers is one of my all time favorite horror movies. I think its really impressive to squeeze that many scares out of a PG movie...
