United Kingdom Sharpe's Peril

I noticed that Sharpe's Peril and Challenge are actually cheaper than the US versions, even after shipping.

Are they both region free? Additionally, are both films the longer cut? I know Challenge features the shortened "international" cut in the US but the US release of Peril has both cuts as well as 5.1 DTS-HD MA sound.

Any help would be appreciated.

. . . I received the British SHARPE'S CHALLENGE Blu-ray yesterday and it is Region Free - although it states a running time of 105 minutes on the back of the case, I tested the time and it is actually near 140 minutes, so I assume it is the full version . . .

I got the UK version and tested it. The run time is 1 hour 40 minutes which is roughly 105 minutes, it is also the cut version.

It's a honest mistake so I'm not mad at you. I just don't understand why even in the home country that you can see Challenge in its full length on TV and DVD, but not on BD...

Odd, but both Sharpe's Peril and Sharpe's Challenge seem to be hard to get these days. I was planning to get the ITV Sharpe box set, along with these two latest productions. But only Sharpe's Peril seems to be in stock at Amazon, so I'll have to wait and see if they'll be getting more copies of Sharpe's Challenge.

I'd never expect a 2 Entertain edition to be out of print. Especially Sharpe, of all things.

I'm pretty sure that when I was looking through the low-priced deals last week, both of the Sharpe blus were there. Hence I would imagine they're just waiting on more stock as perhaps that blitzed out their remaining stock.

Considering doing a Sharpe rewatch in HD reminded me I'd put off watching until the full original version of Sharpe's Challenge was available (and ITVX has the cut version too).

Had to refind where I previously found someone on the AVSforum had posted a reply on Sharpe's Challenge - heavily cut that they received from 2Entertain. Copied here for reference;

We were very keen to make a blu ray release available but the programmes were originally shot on film and therefore would require “up grading” before we could commence re-authoring for BD release. I’m afraid the additional cost of £30K to release the extended version vis-a-vis the modest sales expectations meant that the licensor and 2E decided the project was not financially viable.

Therefore all parties involved decided that the next best solution was to make available the edited version.

So sorry this decision has caused you disappointment.
So a half-done job just to save money but they managed to release the full version of Sharpe's Peril (equally shot on film) at exactly the same time?!? A decade and a bit later we still have to watch the DVD to see the full original version.

EDIT: Actually just noticed it was by the same person who created this thread!
