I'm going to bump this, as I am having the same problem,
Sony Vaio VGN-AR51M with Matshita Blu-ray Drive, as soon as iTunes is installed, the drive is lost, can only be seen in device manager, and then has a big yellow exclamation mark next to it! I created a .bat file to change a registry setting, but then iTunes informs me that it cant find an optical drive :s any ideas? cheers, captainpie |

Probably not the answer you're looking for, but I reverted to XP and everybody's playing nice now... Vista wasn't worth the headaches like this. Sony's apps are happier on XP for now anyway.

cheers for the reply
![]() so is this problem a problem between iTunes, Blu-Ray and Vista with XP being fine with iTunes and Bluray together? or are there still some iTunes/Blu-ray issues that are not OS dependant? Cheers, Captainpie |

As far as I've seen, iTunes and my Blu-Ray burner have been fine together on XP.
Good Luck! |

Just for the record, what versions of Vista are you guys having problems with? and is it 32bit or 64bit? and one last thing... What drive(s) are not being seen?

Rampcheck,
my vista ver is 32bit recently upgraded it to SP1, with same prob happening. for me, it is the MATSHITA blu-ray drive that gets 'lost'. I dont know if it is the same with any other OEM/retail bluray drives or if it is exclusive to the matshita one. cheers Captainpie |

Is it just itunes that does not see the drive or does installing itunes knock out the drive for the whole system?

knocks it off the whole computer, the only way to see it is there is in device manager, where it shows up in the list but with the yellow warning icon.
putting discs in the drive wont be recognized, and no other programs can see an optical drive |

itunes in general run like shit on any windows product...
apple does it on purpose, because they are bitter, look at their commercials, sore losers, if they tried harder and didnt' release an updated product every 3 months they would probably win more of the majority of the world... but to buy a ipod, and have it be outdated in 3 months, is stupid... use a zune, and the zune marketplace software, and vista runs like a gem... why because they didn't bog it down on purpose to piss off windows users. I really think apple has some bizarre idea that if itunes runs like crap on a PC, that the user will say: "Well that's unfortunate, guess I better go buy an overpriced Mac, purely becuase itunes runs smoother on it." Don't get me wrong I enjoy Macs... but HATE their philosophy towards gadgets, gear and home computing. |

So does removing iTunes bring the drive back to life? Or do you have do you have to reinstall the drivers?
