I know this is a blue ray forum and I have quite a collection of standard dvd's as well as starting my blu-ray collection. Today both "The Express" and "Igor" come out, but the best price I am seeing is $19.99 for starndard DVD. Normally when a new release comes out you can find it for $13.99-14.00. I am just curious if anyone knows why the price increase?
Thanks, Bill |

Normally when a new DVD is released Target, Walmart, and Best Buy will usually have around $14.99 on average. At least that is the way it has been in Arizona.

Dvd sales are declining in general thanks to waning interest by the public and a little format called Blu-ray. As the sales of dvds decline, stores will stop using them so frequently as loss-leaders and start using Blu-rays as loss-leaders.

It never makes sense to me to buy something the week it comes out unless you can find it for really cheap like I did today with Saw V on Blu for 15.99.
Most places have sales. You just have to look. If you can wait or find a deal there's no need to spend 30 dollars the day it comes out or even 20 dollars on a DVD. I guarantee you I bought Saw V ton Blu oday for less than some people bought it on DVD at 15.99. I believe the DVD was 16.99 and it might have been 19.99 |

I keep a pretty sharp eye on new release movies. If I want to own it I usually pick it up the week of release for around $14.99. If I don't want to buy it I rent it via Netflix. I can normally pickup most new releases at that price at any of the stores that I mentioned above. I figured the Express and/Igor were both pretty successful motion pictures and would have been discounted and I have normally seen in the past. Maybe I am wrong.
*Sorry for the typo on blu-ray ![]() |
