Default Michael Gross records interview for upcoming "Cool as Ice" Blu-ray

No info yet on release date or studio.

"A trip down memory lane as I did an interview last week for the new DVD and Blu-Ray issue of 1991's "Cool As Ice" starring Vanilla Ice, Naomi Campbell, Kristin Minter and Yours Truly. Like Tremors, this film has become something of a cult classic, and it was a kick, after all these years, to revisit the past."

Facebook post.

P.S. Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum, but it IS on my wishlist!

Finally! Is a Vanilla Ice audio commentary too much to ask for?

Good news. Kino already said they didn’t have it, so that pretty much leaves Shout Factory, Arrow, or Universal themselves.

They can just repurpose an old Freddie Mercury interview and add an extra "chk" between the repeats of the bass line.

It's Turbine Media Group. As far as I read they have teamed up with an external team for this and also fans are involved.

Public info so far are:

- Universal HD Master with no DNR
- English friendly (I guess disk language options and booklet)

- interview with Vanilla Ice
- interview with Kristen Minter
- interview with Michael Gross
- Interview with Victor DiMattia
- interview with Jeff Hamilton

(All interviews appear to be newly produced)

- rifftrax commentary
- fan commentary by the guy who did the vanilla ice archive on YouTube

- video essay by Cecil Trachtenberg

Limited to 2 x 1000 copies

Have not found more so far.

Vanilla Ice has a fanbase and it is a funny movie. I think a release makes sense.

Have not read anything about a 4K master, but the Universal 2K master should do the job.

Thanks for the update. I really can't wait for this. The RiffTrax is hilarious (you can watch it for free if you have Amazon Prime). The running joke about stealing organizers is gold. That makes it even better.

The distributor Turbine Media Group announced a 15 anniversary 15 titles countdown on their FB page. Maybe more info will be posted there within the next days?

Sadly, Turbine is a German company, so hopefully it won’t be blocked for the states.
This film is really fun.
A friend made me watch this & I couldn’t believe how batshit crazy this actually is!
I was Surprised by how beautifully this was shot.
Man, I hate to say it but this was highly entertaining.

Janusz Kaminski, who has often been Spielberg's cinematographer, shot this film, which should illustrate why it looks as good as it does. I catch grief for it all the time, but I have always thoroughly enjoyed this movie, with all its imperfections I do also currently have the German 4-film set including Cool As Ice, which is region free, and though the transfer is fair and completely devoid of extras, it will hold me over until a superior edition (hopefully) comes along!

Also of note is that although Turbine is indeed German, its still possible for the disc to be region free. I own their Barb Wire digibook set which isn't locked.

From all I read online I think this will be the "superior" edition. And apparently it will be region free with English subs and booklet. Also I heard that they are also scanning the trailer in HD... So I guess a lot of special features will be included given the fact that all prior releases had no special features. As for that multiple movie Blu-ray from years ago, it used an online rip of the DNR Netflix stream and the former distributor is rumored to only have had SD rights back then... So I am looking forward to an official Blu-ray using an official master file from Universal.

Looks like u can find all info from now on here as Turbine has posted this yesterday on their FB page:

15 YEARS TURBINE
We celebrate 15 more titles on 15 more days
Day 23 - “COOL AS ICE"

DROP THAT ZERO AND GET WITH THE HERO!

What do Steven Spielberg's standard Director of Photography Janusz Kaminski, the director of "Inspector Gadget" David Kellogg, the actors Michael Gross (Family Ties / Tremors), Kristen Minter (Home Alone / Emergency Room), Victor DiMattia (The Sandlot) and cult rap-star Vanilla Ice have in common?

You nailed it! In 1991 they all worked together on Ice’s feature film debut COOL AS ICE. Unfortunately, despite the previous billboard hit "Ice Ice Baby", the film did not have the expected success. On video it became a cult hit because of its exaggerated ways and the legendary quotable one-liners. Pretty much every film-fan can find an entertaining aspect on COOL AS ICE depending on your perspective. The gentlemen of the infamous audio commentary project "RiffTrax" gave this movie a very special polish with one of their best performances.

Since nobody dared touch this movie in our territory or overseas, we took all our courage and produced an awesome Blu-ray Special Edition. Not only did we drag Vanilla Ice and his colleagues in front of our camera for exclusive interviews, telling us about the making of this very special film, we also produced new audio commentaries. Of course, the above mentioned RiffTrax commentary will be on board as well. We don't want to reveal much more details for now. But we think that this film is a perfect time-capsule back to the early 90s and it delivers 91 minutes of "Good Times" on multiple levels. This upcoming winter is going to be Cool as Ice.

So many great films not on Blu-ray, but we're getting Cool As Ice. This either means there is no higher power, or She hates us.
