Looks like there will be 4k sets for They Live, Escape from New York, The Fog and Prince of Darkness.

Zavvi has Escape from NY, The Fog and They Live up for £29.99 a pop. So far their only listing for Prince of Darkness is £16.99 and looks like Blu-ray only no UHD.

Watched this last night. Not gonna write a super long essay like I did for The Fog as there's less to say. This is a pretty flawless presentation.
Grain is much more subtle than with The Fog. Detail is striking, no egregious processing. The movie is a bit darker than I remember for being set in bright daylight most of the time, but it never looks TOO dark. HDR is very subtle outside of the police flares and ending explosion, but it adds that normal contrast and texture throughout the film. I didn't bother comparing this one to the BDs, but I'm sure like The Fog it spanks them. Geoff mentioned seeing a moment of poor compression in the second police raid, but I didn't notice that one. Might see it in the future though, now that he spoiled it. ![]() Overall a lovely presentation. |

By the way. The documentary on the extra BD for They Live is a great piece.
Participants, including Mrs Carpenter, make no apology regarding the intent of the movie. Previous retrospectives were, if not coy, slightly "that was a funny story" about the political message. Like it's a half remembered joke that has less currency today. The guy is right on the money about They Live being less of the curiosity it became in the past couple of decades, and more a slightly depressing reminder of the way things have not changed. JC himself has always been succinct about it. It is what it is. If you can't see it then, sorry. I'm not here to explain it to you. So it's great to have commentators and collaborators being more expansive. |
