My new Samsung NU8000 UHD TV has a menu for turning on "UHD HDMI COLOR" for each of its four HDMI inputs, and I know this corresponds to transmission of the high-bandwidth signals coming from UHD players with HDR...but right now, I'm still using an Oppo BDP-83 Blu-ray player with this display, which sends out 1080p video from the player (over HDMI 1.3 cables), so do these UHD HDMI COLOR menu selections need to be ON?
I've left them OFF because I was originally told that if I'm not using a UHD player yet, they don't have to be engaged...but can someone confirm this? I saw a rtings video in which they were reviewing a Sony display and mentioned the HDMI UHD COLOR inputs should be turned ON for "maximizing the inputs' bandwidth"...that's why I was a bit confused. |

Also:
Does anyone know if the new Samsung displays, at least, tend to "remember" the last incoming resolution to a specific input it received...even when there's no signal yet going to it? Let me explain: It seems whenever I turn my display on, the input that pops up -- for example, HDMI 1: CABLE BOX -- is accompanied by the white information box on top of the screen that informs me "1080i/60" is the incoming resolution (correct for my cable box)...but this is BEFORE the box is even turned ON. Is this normal, and is this just the TV remembering the last resolution for that input? I would think that if a source device isn't powered on, this incoming resolution info box would be BLANK, showing no incoming data -- but do the Samsungs merely "remember" the last resolution sent to them? I just want to be sure I didn't get a defective panel, because I'm experiencing other issues with the HDMI input "memory" on this TV, as well... |

This makes sense; but being that I am still just using an older 1080p SDR Blu-ray player (the Oppo BDP-83), should I just leave the setting off until I get a UHD disc player? |

Thanks.
Do you concur with Velvet's assessment of how the Samsungs work with regard to the UHD Color settings -- that they will automatically engage the higher bandwidth capabilities if left on and color space is set to auto, even when using pre-2.0 equipment? |

With newer equipment, yes, StingingVelvet's right, but it wouldn't switch on with older devices as it wouldn't detect the need for higher bandwidth usage. So the HDMI ports would remain at 1.4.

Yeah I think Chip is correct, with just a standard BD player I'd leave it off. I doubt having it on would hurt anything, but there's no reason to do so. Once you get a UHD player then turn it on and the TV will know when to use it.
