But I am getting sorely pissed off when I see a Blu-Ray release and the studio rapes us on the price and then the lack of special features!!! WTF?!?!?!? Hey studio! Do you want people to make the transition to Blu? If so then F'ing put something on there to make the people want to have Blu over SD!
I swear! I am writing this b/c Appaloosa and Lakeview Terrace lack in features. I have seen a lot of Blus coming out lately that have the same features as the SD or they simply lack nothing in Blu feature content whatsoever. I am not saying that all are like this, b/c I know that isnt so i.e. Zodiac and Bourne movies. I just want to see everyone make the jump to Blu and the studios need to do something that makes the Blus more enticing than just PQ and SQ. I know PQ and SQ are huge, but not everyone is going to make the jump unless there is A LOT to offer. So studios, QUIT GIVING US ANEMIC-ASS BLUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! For the love of Jesus! Load these disks up! YOU HAVE THE FRIGGIN SPACE! USE IT! I am writing this of course after reading the extras portion of Lakeview Terrace. I am now going to walk around and take a breather. "G-D D*MN Studios better freakin get their act together and put out some quality extras!" Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I feel better now. ![]() |

lol interesting way of phrasing all of that.
but i too agree with you and i've made this rant before too ![]() on the flipside, there are many bluray movies that have the dvd special features PLUS even more exclusive to the bluray. and most of the ones coming out now do appear to have almost all special features from their dvd counterparts; it was a lot of the earlier ones i noticed that didn't. I just really want the movie with great lossless audio and great PQ. Extras are well just extra. With extras its kind of more like i'll watch them when i feel like it but main focus is on how well the movie was transferred onto Blu-ray. But at the same time I want the extras to be equal or more then what the dvd has to offer but I dont wan't the extras to take away the lossless audio or compress the PQ(which has been done many times).

Quote: SUSSUDIO:
but i too agree with you and i've made this rant before too if studios want people to buy the blu's over the dvds they should at least be offering them everything the dvd already does. otherwise, when people see more is offered at a cheaper price they might be hesitant to go with something more expensive just because it is better PQ/AQ. My point exactly Sussudio! I hate when I get asked by some shlep idiot why they should buy Blu when their dvd has the same features. First I want to slap them, but then I pull out a Universal Blu to show them the cool features that studio uses when watching a movie. Unfortunately not every studio utilizes Blus wonderful abilities and they need to. I dont care what they do, but they damn well better wake up and show people why the movie in Blu is a better buy than the same movie in SD. It's the hamburger principle. WHY THE EFF would I go to Texas Roadhouse to buy a Effing $8 hamburger when I could go to McDonalds and get one off their $1 menu....BECAUSE TEXAS ROADHOUSE OFFERS TASTY ROLLS, HOT WAITRESESS AND A BETTER TASTING BURGER! THAT'S WHY DAMMIT! So the studios better quit giving us freakin Dollar Value Menu Slop and better start giving us some hot items on these disks! ![]() Last edited by rghuxley; 01-28-2009 at 02:39 PM. |

True true. I was making more an observation than anything else.
I know that I've enjoyed some special features (sometimes even more than the movies) on more than one occasion. But if I'm to have the extras in SD, I'll just buy the DVD. As long as the BD has the best treatment possible. |

Extras aren't so important. As long as they have everything the DVD release has and they aren't BLATANTLY withholding extras for a double dip, it doesn't matter.
OP mentioned Lakeview Terrace, but the review on this site says it includes everything the DVD release does. Audio commentary, making-of featurette, and deleted scenes. Sounds rather complete to me and does not seem like a baiting for a double dip. Even better, the review says that the most of the extra content is in HD. Blu-ray doesn't need or necessarily deserve exclusive content. Some things, maybe, but only things which BD can do that DVD cannot. I don't want to see DVDs getting nerfed releases, lacking things like commentaries or deleted scenes, just so they can be used as artificial incentives for potential BD buyers. If BD gets exclusive material, it should be stuff that BD can exclusively do, like java-based games or online material or things like that. Quote:

I never watch the extra stuff. 99.9% of the bonus discs I own have never even come out of the cases. I'd rather they leave that stuff off and sell the blu-ray for less $$$. The only times I ever bought a special edition DVD was if it included a "director's cut" of the movie. Just my opinion.
Personally speaking, I would almost be willing to pay MORE to get a movie without this garbage. When I put the movie in, I either want it to go to the menu or just start playing. Why should I have to sit through trailers for movies that I don't want to see or FBI warnings or any of that crap? I just want to watch the movie!! |

seriously? guys, the option is almost always there. some discs have more previews than others, but ive always been able to fast forward, skip, or jump right to the menu. ive never had to sit there and watch every single thing.

I hope you mean the trailers and not the actual supplements on the disk... because that just wouldn't make any sense. |

I totally agree on removing previews and all that other crap before movies. The irony is pirates rip FBI warnings and previews out so only the people paying for the movie actually get punished with that crap.
As for extras, I don't terribly mind anymore if most movies don't have extras. Unless it's a movie I really enjoy or a an interesting story with a lot of historical background the extras can delve into, I'd rather just watch a movie instead. That said, I think if a movie packed with extras is $25-30, a barebones movie should be $20 or less. |

I also tend to agree that extras are just extras. I really do not care for them, unless the movie is an epic masterpiece (Blade Runner). I am actually all for removing extras only to make the price is low. Extras I feel do not help in any way for getting people to switch to Blu-ray. Price is a much more important factor by far.
However, I don't know how I feel about previews. They are good in a way because it adds to the theater experience. A couple seconds with your 16 x fast-forward and they are gone. The FBI warnings though........ugh. |

I do enjoy watching the extras and I give credit to studios like Disney, Paramount, and Universal for trying to make them HD quality as well as the film. It is also interesting to run a movie with a trivia track on to get some background information during the film.
I like to watch the extras to get an insight on how they made these movies and some of the thought processes that went on. When you watch the extras, you can appreciate why it takes so much time and money to make a good film or franchise (LOTR, Narnia, HP, etc.). I also like watching trailers, they're kind of fun to simulate the theater experience. Begin with trailers and then go into the movie. The one thing that I would like to get is the most completed film version (director's cut) as possible. Delete scenes should be put back into the movie if they are finished through post production and help to complete the story. Some theatrical releases had footages removed to shorten the play time in the theater or because of studio interference with the production. For the home viewing experience (DVD or BD), time is no longer a constraint. If a movie is meant to take 2 hours, I want to see the 2 hours. If it's meant to be 2 1/2 hours, I want to see 2 1/2 hours period. Give us the whole thing. |
