725 watts amp is good vibration cause 1hp.
Are you kidding me? Vibrating empty soda can on a sub means absolutely nothing. Perhaps it could even mean a poorly built enclosure. You must have not seen craigsub's subwoofer list. bet he didn't use any empty soda cans either. Here you go.

350 watt high amp = 0.5 hp it's empty soda can slowly move.

725 watt high amp is 1 hp. this is science technology.

a suv jeep has 500 horsepower this fastest speed. how many equal watts?? volt+watt= ? hp

Dude, your soda can science is crooked. High watts don't always amount to greater vibration or earthquake. There are many other things that factor into this.

Mike

I'm a fan of front-firing subs.

My main L/R/C do have downward firing bass, but it's passive.

Okay, statement retract. Please school him on the many factors required to make an "earthquake" in his room, higher watts may only be a small factor.

Really? Come on. He is obviously confused and his grammar is poor. Why would you want to see that happen? So you can feel better about being right?

Absolutely not. The same reason why numerous folks, including myself, are corrected on their AV knowledge. So we won't go around spreading incorrect info. I'm a total noob.

Opips,

Don't talk about earthquakes. Every once in a while, the ground shakes in Southern California. It scares the hell out of people. Some blame the earthquakes on the San Andreas Fault, but I beleive it is the 5 subwoofers in my home theater room and too much horse power. The good news is that in a few days, I will be the proud owner of the 6th subwoofer in the room.

P.S. A small subwoofer that is properly designed (driver, cabinet, ports) and is properly placed in a room can cause earthquakes, even with a small amplifier. This is something that Dr. Hsu of Hsu Research has managed to accomplish for many years.

Default Placement & Set Up

Hello

Without getting involved; a downward firing subwoofer is better for placement issues for the best performance; technically, of course.

As many otherwise have personal preferences; this knowledge is useless, unless you really have an interest in the best possible bass performance.

I hope that this information is useful.

Thank You

Mike
Two 15" are powered subwoofers (300 watts each) built in the Definitive Technology Super Towers. They are not used for LFE. They provide low extension for the front speakers.

Two were originally 12" classic Hsu subwoofers. The amplifier is 750 watt per sub external Cinepro amp. I replaced the drivers and upgraded the subs.

One is 15" with a 1,500-2,000 watt Carver amp. The cabinet was from an old DBX sub from the 1980's. I completely rebuilt the sub with enhanced parts and driver.

The 6th one will be a 12" powered sub. If I have time, I will finish it next week.

Building and upgrading subs has become a full-time hobby. I have a very old 10" sub in the garage. It smiles at me every time I enter the garage.
