Seems a bit random, but more Howard Hawks is never a bad thing.

I hope this "MOD" release fares better than the two previous ones I bought... "The Wedding Date" has about ten seconds during a song near the end of the movie where the sound disappears completely...absolute silence. And as for "The Thrill of it all", the disc gets frozen in the scene where James Garner stomps out of the house after quarreling with Doris Day, stays like that for about ten-fifteen seconds and then jumps to the part where Garner is already in the car and driving away.
Dear Universal honchos, employees, talents or whatever... wouldn't it be better to license your catalog titles to a company willing to release them properly, rather than spit your movies out in the worst possible careless way charging them top price? Hasn't the recent "Revenge of the Creature" debacle (still unsolved and from what I read, not even corrected properly on the reissued replacement disc) taught you ANYTHING? Greed is one thing, stupidity leading to losing your customers is quite another. Get your act together, please. Or just give Shout Factory your masters and let THEM do the encoding and pressing, so you can at least avoid our insults over your ineptness.

MOD are still pressed discs, so the errors you claim are present aren't a result of that.

LOL and if Shout Factory is your answer, they've had more replacement programs than Universal, so that solves nothing. If your point was to let someone else screw them up instead, well that's just dumb.

Very pleased to see this announced. Hope Universal follow this with 'A Very Special Favour', 'Come September' and 'Strange Bedfellows'.

I don't have either of those two particular titles but I have several Universal MOD titles and they all play with no problems.

Are you sure it's not a problem with your player?

This is such a funny film and is one that I always recommend when people ask for a suggestion for something to watch. And they always love it.

The later sounds like something on the disc that the player can't read, either a scratch, finger smudge or something. Unless the disc was abused, like with ex-rentals, scratches on BD often happen at the factory and will run with the circumference of the disc, which is the worst kind. If that's the case you should contact Universal for a replacement or exchange it with the vendor if you bought it from an authorized store and it's still within the return window. Anything else should clean up easily with a cotton or better yet a microfiber cleaning cloth.

As for the sound dropout, that could be an HDMI hiccup, which often occur at the layer change with many players, and this is reportedly a BD50, which is curious since the runtime and extras don't seem to warrant more than a BD25. If it's an HDMI issue, right after playing the part that loses audio sync, rewind and play through that part again, it should correct itself the second time through and on repeat viewings, unless you clear your player cache.

Can't wait for Man's Favorite Sport! Though, now, I think I'll wait for reviews before getting rid of my DVD just in case.

This is one of my favorite Rock Hudson films and my FAVORITE Paula Prentiss film. Prentiss is a tornado who blows air into Hudson's stuffed shirt. Hudson is great as a so-called fishing expert who secretly hates fish, and fishing (I'm guessing he could relate). Hudson shows a real flair for physical comedy, but it's Prentiss who steals the show. She makes Katherine Hepburn's turn in Bringing Up Baby seem quiet and reserved by comparison. Not all of the jokes work and Norman Alden's turn as an Native American is slightly cringe-worthy, but it's great fun all the way through.

Speaking of Baby, this Sport doesn't match Hawks' earlier effort at screwball comedy, but it does prove that he hadn't lost his touch 25 years later.

I wonder if Come September will be next, as it came out on dvd around the same time as Man's Favorite Sport and Strange Bedfellows. Would've been great had Universal done a Rock Hudson Collection, similar to the one they did for their Doris Day films.

FYI: Sport was reputed to be Hawks' remake of Baby, albeit with some modernization.

Mmmm I'm so tempted to blind buy because I adore this movie and actually have been thinking about rewatching it recently. I hope the transfer is good...what do you guys think? Is this one a safe bet?
