New 2K scan could be promising, depends how they handle it. I can not see Studio Canal licensing out any of the extra's they have produced for the old dvdthough.

I've got a feeling this one will eventually be released on Blu-ray.

Me too, The Hitcher dvd does not look great on my 65" tv so looking forward to getting it in HD finally.

It has been said that Nameless Media will release "The Hitcher" on world exclusive bluray . The basis for the release will be a new 2K-master. 5 different covers will be available to order.

I kind of figured that an oversea's company would be the first to bring this movie to blu-ray now if only Code Red or Scream Factory or Vinegar Syndrome could get a hold of this for us in the state's.

Downside of the german BD is that it comes from a 35mm theatrical print and the whites are blown out. Still looks better than the dvds mind.

What is bad in 35mm print? And what does it mean when whites are blown out?

Tried watching it but the black fluctuations and posterization was too much for me. Will continue to wait for something better. Waited all these years anyways.

Yes,watched it a few days ago and its a great release.
It was amazing to see this movie in HD for the very first time ever.
It may not be as good as other 80s movies ....video quality wise but I compared to the two dvd versions that I have (a single and a 2 dvd release)
and the upgrade is huge.....I will throw the dvds away as they are worthless to me now.

It has it's issues, but it's a vast improvement over the DVD.

German blu is too much though. I'm not paying AU $70+ for a blu-ray. I'll stick with the download until it's released elsewhere at a reasonable price.

It's rather surprising the US DVD is even anamorphic. It never had a widescreen Laserdisc release, but you could easily be made to believe the DVD was from a non-anamorphic LD transfer. It's not very good at all. I'm not importing the BD. It's bound to get a licensor here in the States eventually that can get a better quality source (OCN, IP). There's a commentary and documentary from the UK DVD that's never been available in North America, which is enough to sell it.
