Default The Hitcher

How come there is no blu ray review or entry for The Hitcher?
Rutger Hauer / C.Thomas Howell

?

Anyone own the Blu Ray that can tell me how the transfer/audio is?

I hope if and when The Hitcher makes its Blu-Ray debut, it will do so with the extras available in the UK. My biggest disappointment with the remake is that it did not prompt Warner to revisit the original on DVD, which even the lamest remake is usually good for.

Love The Hitcher, Rutger Hauer is a total bad ass.

I got my sister to bring back the SE of The Hitcher on DVD when she went to the UK on holiday. Great DVD.

The remake hasn't been released on Blu-ray either. Not in the US at least.

Anyone know if the Alliance blu of the 2007 Hitcher has the original 2.35 ratio? Found it cheap and would like to get it but not if its cropped.

The original "The Hitcher" starring Rutger Hauer is the only one worth owning. Unfortunately there are no good DVD's available, so I hope one day that a blu-ray will be made.

I like Sean Bean, but he is no Rutger Hauer playing that character. Hauer was amazing playing that role.

I agree! Rutger Hauer's portrayal was more intense, and menacing in the original.

The original film The Hitcher is absolutely riveting. I would definitely buy it day one if it was to be released. Unfortunately, only the remake is available to be imported from other countries. No countries have the original on Blu-Ray, as far as I know. I have the DVD that I bought years ago to hold me over, but the original is a classic in my opinion.

Default No original Hitcher yet...

Yeah, I like The Hitcher so much that I'm responsible for the Blu-ray page here despite no release date!

I learned how to add Blu-ray (product) pages and entered a dozen or so before a moderator said "What are you doing??" and stopped me! Ha ha, I thought that's how it was done, like a Wiki, but I guess they only want pages when there's actual release news (which I was hoping for, BTW, when I came to this page!)

What a great thriller, though, huh? Rutger Hauer's just relentless stalking; C. Thomas Howell's anguished "Why are you doing this to me?" and Jennifer Jason Leigh's *ahem* hook up... oh - my - God.

And I've mentioned this before, but The Hitcher contains a single shot in an action scene that I believe is unmatched today, even by Michael Bay.
[Show spoiler]The utter simplicity of the 4-second static shot of the cop cars' demise is just jaw-dropping.

I really want Hitcher on Blu!

The 2-disc special edition DVD released in UK/Germany is VERY good, thank you. Granted it's no 1080p remaster from original vault materials...

...But seriously, what's the hold up? Blue Underground...Synapse...Cult Epics...SOMEBODY...get on it!

You're so right about that scene. In fact, I swear I remember hearing (I think in a featurette on the UK special edition DVD) that that was actually the first 'double barrel role' seen in a film. In fact, I find that entire sequence to be masterful in terms of editing, camera angles, etc--for example the moment where the driver side door comes flying off the police cruiser Jim is driving, causing one of the pursuing cop cars to nearly spin out of control. Little moments like that. Packs a visceral punch even today.

Yeah, the 2-disc Momentum UK release is excellent. The definitive version (and of course those who copied it in Germany, Kinowelt).

I think the rights for this are a bit jumbled unfortunately but I reckon it'll appear in Europe first through StudioCanal. Even though we're saying the UK DVD is great it would be no match for 1080p of course assuming they get it right.

Great film which the instantly forgettable 'reboot' didn't even cast a shadow on. POS.

This thread made me want to get that DVD set and I saw that our friends formerly known as Optimum released a DVD in 2009 since the Momentum (from 2003) is now OOP. I almost bought the Optimum until I realized it appears they only port some of the extras over and not all of them:

http://www.studiocanal.co.uk/Film/De...6-9e8000498ae0

Bought the Momentum off of eBay just now.

In the midst off all these companies releasing genre tittles, how can this classic from the 80s still not be on blu-ray?
