I take it you mean dvd since no SW films have made it on blu yet. A dvd set was released I think 2 or 3 years ago, but the source if I recall was a laserdisc master from early-mid 90's. Be warned that untouched is completely untouched. The picture wasn't cleaned up, and the audio is only Dolby 2.0, direct from the LD master.

edit: looks like P@t Mtl found it.

Unfortunately those DVD releases, the original versions are treated as 'extras' and are highly compressed, and non anamorphic to boot. A total waste of time.

Are there any significant changes other than the Han/Greedo Shot First controversy? I'm not a huge SW fan, so I don't really know many of the differences, but that one is talked about so much that I think everyone must know about it.

Maybe Lucas can edit the scene again, to make it more like this:

I didn't realize there was any controversy over this, and I hope I'm not opening up a can of worms. In the original 1977 film, Greedo never fired a shot. Greedo firing was added later in the special edition releases.

Yea. The whole scene with Jabba the Hut was never in the original release. It was cut from the final edit and the actual scene was filmed with a regular guy.

Well I thought the controversy was that Lucas felt a need to go back and change the movie, to make Greedo shoot first, so that little kids could still admire Han Solo.

At least Lucas seems to have a sense of humor about it now:

In the special edition when the scene with Jabba and Han Solo walking together (or should I say "slithering" in Jabba's case), I thought that Jabba seemed somewhat "small" in the scene. It also seemed to me that Jabba's movements were very effeminate. Considering his flaming cousin in Clone Wars, perhaps the Hutts are all either gay or bi-sexual.

he's small and awkward because there isn't really enough room for him in the scene that was shot. see: han elevating a few inches when he "steps on his tail".

ugh. I hate thinking about that. I'll take the originals in terrible quality over the special editions.

full disclosure: I own both sets of the trilogy on dvd.

Agreed. I actually watch them on my gamer rig as well since my sound card has both DTS Interactive and DD Live so it adds a significant 5.1 improvement to the audio.
