I was thinking of going with the 5020 but I want the 8 inches. So is Amazons price of $2408 right now the best price Im going to see? Im sure if I waited another month it might drop more but Im looking to buy soon.

I bet the price is pretty close to bottom, as the new models will be coming out soon. $2400 for a 58" 800U is amazing. I paid $2K for my 720p TH-58PE75U last spring because that price was tough to beat for a 'big' plasma. I've heard rumors that the new 58" models with 96Hz refresh rates will be priced at the $2400 mark, but have not seen anything definitive yet. If they come out at that price, I'm definitely going to bite the bullet and upgrade.

What series are you talking about when you say (new) 58inch model?
I thought it was a 54 incher that was getting all the press.

The 54" is the only size available in the Z-Series, but the V-Series are supposed to have 96Hz (4:4 pulldown) for 1080p24 sources and will be available in 50, 54, 58 and 65" sizes, but the latter two will be later on in the year.

Do you think the 54Z model will compete with or top your Elite? Im trying to hold out before buying another set. Part of me wants to land a deal NOW and get a 151 Elite, but then something is saying to wait for the Z to come out. I wish you could get it now and do a comparison review for me so I would know what to get at your expense

No, I don't think so. They won't even "beat" MY 5020's. I still want one to compare & see how far off it is PQ wise... There gunna be really nice set's, but Pioneer is in a class of its own.

The Z-series will be awesome and may offer a more accurate colour palette than the Kuro, but if inky blacks are your thing then the answer will definitely be no. However it will likely also not compete where pricing is concerned.

From what I have read at other sites the Z series is a combo of Pio and Panny tech, Pio screen made by Panny, so I have heard so it should be pretty good. ALso I have read that the new Pannys will not be as good as a 9G Pio or maybe even an 8G Pio or about the same as the 8G. That shocked me. Rumor mill stuff though.

Oh yeah I also have a 5020 on the way, could not sacrafice pic quality for screen size it would just be a bigger reminder that the pic was not as good as a 5020 and the price is seriously low right now. Found one place that has a 5020 for 1795 or so.

Ive sold other tv's i've owned in the past and what i do is look at the next size lower that is similar make and model to the tv im selling and offer mine for lower. That way when say someone goes into a store and they see a 42inch 85u going for $1000, and here you're selling a 50inch 85u for $1000, you wont have a price conflicting comparison going on with the buyer. They will automatically consider your set as the better deal. Another thing is if you selling your 50/85u, try to make it worth even more your while and upgrade the size too while your at it (if your location permits), and plunk that $1000 down on a 58/850u instead rather than swap a 50inch for a 50inch.

Exception: if you swapping a 50inch Panny for a 50inch Elite (now thats different story)

I am going to buy the 58 800u in a couple of months, assuming they will get it in the 2k range. But if there is one with better frame refresh and pull down, I would wait. I hate getting something with it being the best you can get at the time to find out its not..Makes me crazy and spend money I shouldnt.lol

I want to do the same thing, but I'm going to hold-out until the new 58" models come out in the fall. Not sure of the model number, but the one I'm interested in has 96Hz for 24p content. "Rumor" has it that it will be in the $2,500 price range. I currently have a 58" 720p set that I love, but will upgrade later this year if the price is right and I can sell mine for >$1200. Obviously, I can afford to wait., but a $2K 58" 800U would be VERY tempting.... Doubt we'll see them that low, though.

I dont know they were all about 2800-3000 last year about this time and they are down further. The big ticket sales are off and they need to make room for the latest and greatest come the end of 2nd quarter..I hope
