This is all true, but I'd also hasten to add that, for all of the praise it gets among genre fans, I've never felt that it approaches the genius of Romero's trilogy. If the PQ weren't such a dramatic upgrade from the last BU release, I probably wouldn't've bothered. (And as one of the last CD-buying holdouts, I'm very happy to get that soundtrack!)

Every time I see it I like it a bit more, but that's because I've learned to revel in what it does right (music, atmosphere, make-up) and ignore its shortcomings (pacing, dialogue, character). And while I wouldn't say "trashed"...I do tend to need a glass or three for this experience.

Also, I'd recommend watching it in Italian. The performances (and the words themselves) are less distractingly unnatural.

I forgot to cancel my Amazon pre-order after buying from DeepDiscount. So Amazon just charged me and then I canceled. So either that cancellation will go through or I'll have two copies of the splinter cover…

Pre-ordered the lenticular bridge cover...after seeing in the theater years ago, the muddy looking Anchor Bay dvd release, and the last blu ray by Blue Underground, SO hyped for this release..

This may be the first time I bought a film for the box art

I like the film but I am not a huge fan. I get in the mood to view this every once in a while but its nothing I cant live without.

But that Splinter cover is so awesome and such an iconic moment. Had to get it..

Looking at the transfer screenshots I'm thinking I might have to triple-dip this release on blu-ray, and it's not even one of my favorite films. I kept the previous BU release for the extras, I assume the new release retains them all, especially loved the actor commentary and the retrospective making of.

This is a triple dip, as I own the Media Blasters DVD and the Arrow blu (all three have distinctive bonus features not carried over on any other releases).

Hoping Target sent me the right slipcover.

I have the Anchor Bay DVD, the 25th Anniversary Special Edition Shriek Show DVD, Blue Underground first BD release, Arrow Steelbook and now I have ordered this one too. Guess this is the last time I am buying Zombie.

It’s been ordered for me as a Christmas gift. I think this will be the fifth copy I have had, but the PQ from the photos just looks incredible, and of course you get the soundtrack. But, this is it! Even if it comes out in 4K!!! I feel like I practically funded the movie.

Agreed with all of this. You really do have to be approaching it the right way. The Romero films are fairly intelligent by genre standards and have some clever dialogue and good characters, this is the opposite. The atmosphere and look of it are totally different from them, though, and are the real highlight.

I HATED this movie on first watch. I'd heard it advertised as "that movie with an eyeball getting spiked and a zombie fighting a shark" and assumed what I think anyone would assume with that description - that it was going to be really silly and fun and gross. Instead, I got this weird thing that was aiming for atmosphere while containing the latter. It actually left me depressed, especially with that rather mournful main theme and the apocalyptic ending. It didn't help matters that the old cheap AB DVD was garbage and gave everything a heavy brownish-red tint. And as a disclaimer, I watched The Beyond shortly after and loved that, so it wasn't just me being biased against ludicrous yet depressing Italian splatter cinema.

The Arrow blu-ray was my second watch, and I really got into it, and I've liked it more every time I've watched it since. I still think The Beyond and especially his gialli are considerably better, but it's a good one! This is the third time I've bought it now. (though I sold that DVD off after one watch, I hated it so much!)

I like this movie, but as a whole it’s slightly underwhelming. The opening scene is cool, then there’s a huge chunk of slowness until the ocean scene, and then another big chunk of slowness until the final 15-20 minutes. Don’t get me wrong, it’s got an unbelievable score, and the eyeball scene is one of the greatest kills ever, but it definitely ranks behind several other Fulci films on my enjoyment scale. The Beyond, House By the Cemetary, City of the Living Dead, and New York Ripper for sure.

I got Severin's blus of Zombi 3 & 4 today, getting BU's 4K remaster of Zombi 2 tomorrow and should be getting the 4K remaster of Maniac Friday.

Should be a solid week.

I missed out on the chance to get 3 and 4 during Severin's sale as I've been told by friends that they're supremely awful but I like me some entertaining cheese every now and then. Are these entertaining? I don't consider Zombie cheese but a legitimately good movie, by the way and I'm loving my splinter copy!

thought it was bizarre when magazines started doing cover variations and people bought into it, now they're doing that stuff with films and it's even more perplexing. make a choice, buy one. and i honestly don't really get why there should be a choice. got enough to think about.

sort of what i was thinking. but it's the unnecessary choices making it hard. can't just entirely ignore them either, because it's spreading.

Received my rotting Zombie cover C and watched the new transfer last night.

Simply put the new 4k transfer is stunning, detail is amazing, colors pop and it still has filmic grain.

The best that the movie has ever looked, just an excellent viewing experience on my 65” oled.

Can not wait for the Maniac 4k experience if the work is anything compared to this outstanding transfer, BU stepped up their game on this one!

Oh yeah! Received a shipping notification from Amazon yesterday, stating my copy (Splinter) has shipped, which means I should have it in a couple of weeks.

I've been reading the positive feedback the transfer has been getting here, and I'm really looking forward in watching it now.

I have a question for those who have viewed the film - is the stereo mix the same as the previous BD release; or has it been re-mixed?
Thanks.
