Now that we're nearing the end of the year, which films announced for Blu-ray surprised or excited you the most?
I was pretty excited for "Freaky Friday" (2003) from the DMC as well as "In the Heat of the Night" from Criterion, but I have to say I was floored when Severin announced "The Changeling". I thought we'd never see the day. |

There were a few releases on Blu this year that I frankly thought might not ever see the light of day on Blu.
Probably the most surprising was, finally, the Blu-ray release of The Thing From Another World. When 2018 started, I don't think anyone thought that we would see this one on Blu by year's end. The fact that Warner kept this one under wraps and then, all of a sudden, it was up for order, was an interesting turn of events for 2018. I was also pleasantly surprised to see two of my long awaited, and most wanted, releases for Big Wednesday and Never So Few appear in 2018. I thought that these two films were obscure enough that Warner would never spend the dollars to get them out on Blu. Here's hoping that we get more of these surprises in 2019. Perhaps the biggest surprise ion 2019, although I am not holding my breath, is that we would get a Blu-ray release for The Abyss. Now that WOULD be a surprise. TTFAW is probably up there, yes.
Kino's Charley Varrick announcement was pretty good too. I wasn't too surprised that somebody was going to finally release it here but the fact that they're planning to do a new 4k scan was a very pleasant surprise. |

I was happy to see Candyman finally get a NA release. Was surprised to see Universal step up with a bunch of releases (The Skulls, etc.).
I'd still really like to see The Beach and Jack (Robin Williams) on blu some day. Along with many others but those are two off the top of my head. I might come back for more later. One that would REALLY surprise me that I'd like to see is Poolhall Junkies. |
