Default How do I know what services are associated with a code?

Looking to sell a collection of full unused codes. How do I differentiate between the way codes can be redeemed? Edward Scissorhands says Digital HD then a small Ultra Violet icon below. Is that two separate services? Then it says select your preferred service, so can it be redeemed at other services? I want to make sure I list these correctly.

Most code sheets should also contian an address to connect to redeem the code. Generally these will take you to page that will have you enter the code, then it will usually provide a list of the services the code redeems at.

Note:
- unless you want to redeem the code yourself use a incognito browser instance, sometimes they try to auto-redeem
- the addresses can be expired for some of the older codes. try using the address from the same studio with the newer codes.
- Movies Anywhere connects to multiple services. Vudu, Apple, Google, Microsoft, Comcast, FandangoNow, and Amazon
- Ultraviolet connects to just Vudu, and FandangoNow
- most codes haven't actually expired even if they show any expired date, always check the code through the site listed

Digital HD indicates that the digital, movie is redeemable in high definition. Ultraviolet, iTunes, etc are services where the movie can be redeemed. If the code is from a 4K blu-ray combo, some of those movies, can also be redeemed in 4K if applicable. When you list digital copies to sell, all you have to do is list the title of the movies, and the buyer will know what to do afterwards.

It's a little complicated, but I'll try to lay it out so you can maximize the codes.

Most buyers know where they want to redeem. If you're merely selling, then the important part you might need to know is how to test a code.

You can use an incognito browser as mentioned above, or simply always make sure you are never logged in (assuming you have a digital account in any of these: Vudu, Movies Anywhere (MA), FandangoNow (FN)).

In all of those, it's basically the same procedure:
1. while logged OFF, put in the code
2. procedure with "redeem"
3. if the site asks for a log-in, code is good. If says "invalid" or "something's wrong", it's either a typo, or the code is used

If you use Vudu to test you only find out if the code is valid or not. If you use MA you find out if valid AND you find out if HD or SD or 4K (UHD). The problem is that not all studios take part in MA, for example Lionsgate, so you can only test those in Vudu.

But since you have the code slips, this might not be so much of an issue. Basically this:
If the code slip has printed "digital HD", the code should redeem HD. If the code slip has printed only "digital", it will redeem SD. HD codes come from BDs, SD codes from DVD.

Many (but not all) DVD codes were upgraded to HD: Warner (can be tested in MA) and Lionsgate (cannot be tested in MA)

Practically every buyer on this site will know what to do, where to redeem, mainly you just need to indicate if you have SD or HD codes. You don't need to give them the code slip instructions.

One important thing to know is that Paramount codes are UV and iTunes. If the person redeems on the Paramount site, that will kill the dual redeem. If you make sure the buyer redeems in Vudu, then iTunes would still be good (or iTunes first, then Vudu). Other codes were (and still are) both UV and iTunes, but because of changes, sometimes hard to predict which ones.

If you're advising your buyers, newer Warner and Sony codes often direct you to use MA, but do not. Use Vudu for those codes, as the person redeeming gets both UV and MA rights. If the person redeems in MA, they ONLY get MA rights. But that would be buyer knowledge/preference.

There is a way to test iTunes, but it involves having an much older version still installed. I can't really tell you how to do it as I don't have iTunes at all.

Also, as mentioned above, most codes have not expired, no matter what the date says on the code slip. The very oldest codes (old system) have expired, and some older Universal codes were allowed to expire so that studio could convert to MA, but most are still valid years after expiration. Some expired codes were revived, some older iTunes codes were transformed into UV codes, so best to test them.

Some Universal codes test invalid on MA, but valid on Vudu

Wow, thanks for the detailed information. Helps a ton. Appreciate it.

I have slips that are all from Bluray and 4K that only state Digital Movie. There is a chance those could be in SD?

I just tested Justice League, the slip just says Digital Movie but MA says 4K.

Your best bet is to list the movie with it's source, for example "Saving Private Ryan from 4K Blu-ray" or "Gladiator from Blu-ray" rather than saying "Digital HD". If it's from 4K Blu-ray, you can say "not sure that it redeems in 4K or not but this movie is from a 4K Blu-ray." In your post, make a suggestion that the buyer checks 4ksheet.com for possible 4K redemption options from 4K Blu-rays.

This means, the digital movie can be redeemed in 4K. It's a 4K movie download.
