Default The River's Edge (1957) - Anthony Quinn, Ray Milland - March 19, 2019

The River's Edge (1957) will arrive on Blu-ray on March 19, 2019, from Twilight Time. This will be a limited edition of 3000 copies.

Quote:
From IMDB ....A murderous thief on the run with stolen loot forces a poor rancher to guide him across the desert into Mexico. Accompanying them is the rancher's wife, who happens to be the killer's former girlfriend.

Directed by Allan Dwan, one of cinema's early pioneers who directed over 400 films, mostly in the silent era. His filmography includes Sands of Iwo Jima, Escape to Burma, Stage Struck, Zaza, Bound in Morocco, The Good Bad Man, The Half-Breed, Manhandled, Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm, and Woman They Almost Lynched.

Starring:

Ray Milland (The Lost Weekend, Dial M for Murder, The Big Clock, Panic in Year Zero, Ministry of Fear, Escape to Witch Mountain)

Anthony Quinn (Zorba the Greek, The Guns of Navarone, Lawrence of Arabia, The Shoes of the Fisherman, The Secret of Santa Vittoria, Behold a Pale Horse, Barabbas, The Savage Innocents, Across 110th Street)

Debra Paget (Cry of the City, The Ten Commandments, Broken Arrow, Demetrius and the Gladiators, Prince Valiant, Love Me Tender)

I had a premonition someone was going to release this soon....I've been wavering on getting the Fox DVD for ages, and had the Spanish (probably bootleg) Blu-ray in my Amazon.es cart *this morning* but just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. And here it is!! Thanks TT!!!

Unfortunately this title has been ruined because it has been tealified for its 1080p debut. The caps on Beaver speak for themselves. Why can't color-timing "experts" leave the damn original color-timing intact? Really pisses me off.

2 things have floored me about this movie and I’m only half way through

1 that car Ray Milland drives

2. The stupendous what looks like to me a 4K harvest

Beautiful film grain left intact

A very good Noir

Well, I've watched the BD and can categorically state that there is NO teal push - it looks terrific.
And, checking out the screenshots on Beaver, it's clear that the BD is warmer and corrects the teal push of the DVD!
I suggest an eye test, pronto.

Can anyone recommend this (or not) as a blind buy? Love Cinemascope stuff and the Beaver caps intrigued me quite a bit. The TT is currently on sale

I’m a big fan of it (so keep that in mind) - it’s a noir-ish thriller that’s mostly a battle of wits between a deliciously smarmy and evil Ray Milland, and the more straightforward yet still morally ambiguous Anthony Quinn. Debra Paget isn’t given too much to do, she’s more there for window dressing. There are a few genuinely shocking moments, one almost laugh out loud so. You may not connect with it as much as I do, but I think most would find it at least above average.

Does this have any connection with the 80s movie “the rivers edge”?
