Default BRs Unreleased in the U.S. (That are available Elsewhere)

I couldn't find a Thread like this...

I'm sure this sounds pretty ignorant and silly to some, but I'm just recently finding out that there are Blu-Rays released in the UK and Elsewhere that are not, and maybe will never be, released in the U.S.. I searched but I couldn't find a thread informing folks of these Films. If anyone knows of another Thread or has a better Name for this one, please feel free...

As an example: I just picked up a few of my Fave Movies on BR from the UK that don't seem to exist in the U.S.:

Bagdad Cafe
Cocoon (I can't help it. I just love the Performances by the Older actors!)
Georgie Girl

One of my very fave Films,The Milagro Beanfield War, seems to be available in HD from Amazon Prime but doesn't seem to be available as a BR anywhere. Same with Murphy's Romance.

There are hundreds if not thousands of movies available on Blu-ray only outside the US. Honestly I wouldn't even know where to start to list them.

If we kept it to a list of region-free and relatively "big" movies with no US release it would be manageable. I'm surprised there isn't a thread for that already.

Beverly Hills Cop 2 and 3, the Police Academy movies, Beastmaster, The Punisher, and No Escape are some big ones off the top of my head.

I'm fairly certain there was a thread by HD Goofnut that listed a HUGE amount of titles that didn't have U.S. releases, although that wasn't the main focus of his thread. It was mainly pointing out titles that had better releases elsewhere (but in doing so also pointed out unreleased U.S. titles).

Not sure if the thread still exists, I haven't noticed it in quite some time.

Edit: And of course literally right after typing this, I noticed his thread just a few spots down from this one! TC you may want to look a little deeper next time.

I think you're referring to this one although that isn't the main focus, but it does list titles that don't (or at that time didn't) have a US release. Those have the US listed as N/A.

What I’d give for a proper release in another region of Leone’s films, particularly GBU.

Beastmaster, Dead Zone and The Fly 2 all have region-free releases sold in the US from overseas. I'm guess you don't want those for some reason, but in case you didn't know about them... now ya do.

Thanks. Yes, I'm aware of those. I was just posting the list of DVD's I own which haven't seen an actual US release, irrespective of any region coding or where they can be purchased from.

Ridley Scott's A Good Year 2006 (Russell Crowe being both boyish & charming!), multi-region disc from Germany, & apart from the cover (Ein gutes Jahr) it's an all American disc, English titles, & defaults to English language, & it's only 9 euros.

In fact Fox are releasing a few sold-out TT titles in Germany over the next few months, & they all look to be multi-region: Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines (1965), Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (1959) & Hombre (1967), plus Morituri (1965), I don't think that's had a release yet.

…Oh, & the sold-out TT release, The Blue Max is available from France (Le Crépuscule des aigles), I have it & it looks great, the same transfer as the TT release & only 11.37 euros & Amazon states that it's all regions (don't buy the German release as it's an old transfer).

Slaughterhouse Five

A lot of the non-Godzilla Toho Kaiju films. I want them all but consider Mysterians, Rodan, and Mothra are the big ones. Rodan seems to be coming from Criterion as part of their acquisition of classic media titles but Mothra and Mysterians are MIA.

Mothra is with Sony...Mysterians may have reverted back to Toho at this point.

Strange Days and The Crying Game. Both titles are the reason I went region-free.

I import titles all the time. I'm not limited to Region A titles. I just haven't gotten around to upgrading all my DVD's to Blu-ray yet. The list I posted are just the DVD's I haven't upgraded to Blu-ray yet which I'd have to import.

Thanx for the feedback!

I wasn't actually expecting a definitive list of any sort... just a discussion of Fave Films available places other than the U.S.

I just watched Bagdad Cafe and it looks great. The credits say it was a 4K Scan... so, very cool.

Cocoon looked pretty good too!

Georgie girl looked pretty bland, but I'm assuming the Source Material wasn't great!
