![]() ![]() Also, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Revolutionary Girl Utena, and Ranma 1/2 were all anime shot on 16mm, but only Utena and Ranma still look like it on Blu-ray. DBZ’s short-lived “Level” sets were very faithful 16mm transfers, but the ones FUNimation ended up sticking with scrub the grain to the point where the show could almost pass for digital (almost). Note that the movies for all four shows (and Ranma’s OVAs) were 35mm. Plenty of anime were 16mm, but those are the ones I can think of on US Blu-ray. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by GeoffOliver; 12-28-2018 at 06:16 PM. |

The Old Man & The Gun (releasing on Blu this month) was shot on 16mm, and uses the format well. Another recent movie I know about is the Doug Liman war movie The Wall.

Pennebaker's Dont Look Back (1965-7), a documentary about Bob Dylan, was 16mm.
Claude Chabrol and Eric Rohmer have also shot on 16mm. Some of Rohmer's 16mm films are confirmed in my breakdown here: https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...=225116&page=5 but not all. Many 16mm films are transferred from 35mm release prints instead of the OCN. |
