Yeah, as long as it's restored back to 4:3. From what I've learned (I only have season one on DVD), the top and bottom were cut to give it a widescreen look?

But I like the FUNi music and voiceovers too.. so I dunno.

I was actually kind of excited about the Season Sets when I first heard about them, as I haven't seen much of the show and thought it would be a good way to see what all the fuss was about. But as soon as I saw it had been cropped from the original 4x3 aspect ratio to 16x9, that was the deal breaker for me. I would have happily shelled out for all the seasons, I'm sure, otherwise. If they restore it to the correct aspect ratio I'll most likely pick it up. Otherwise, no.

Also, aren't the original film prints on 16mm not 35mm? Meaning it wouldn't actually gain much from an HD upgrade resolution-wise...

Gonna start airing on japanese in April. I think I'll finally give it a shot. I got into anime when it was airing on CN, and the only fansubs out were low LOW quality, so I never really gave the show a shot. When it starts airing in April, as long as one of the subbers out there are carrying it, I'll give it a shot.

And if it does well, I cant imagine Funi NOT grabbing it up and giving it a proper release. DB is a great cashcow.

I've seen DBZ a couple times on TV and I just couldn't get into it. It seems to be entirely too slow paced for me. I watched like 5 episodes back to back and they were still fighting the same fight the entire time, and it was STILL to be continued at the end of the 5th episode. I prefer my TV shows to move a little bit faster then that.

That said, I hope that they do justice to this for those that do enjoy it and want to see it.

Don't care for DBZ, though I might buy the original Dragon Ball, at least some of the arcs, if that ever made it to Blu-ray. Much more fun and pleasant adventure, without all the ridiculousness, posturing and machismo of the sequel.

no they didnt.. they gave the picture a true widescreen angle adding left and right image that was not on the original airing of the episodes BUT they cut some of the picture on top and bottom

Depend which saga you watch, the best saga to start with is probably the saiyan one when vegeta arrive, if you just want see good episode in short period, probably buu saga.

News coming in that it actually wont be airing in HD after all:

Fuji TV network and its affiliates will start broadcasting a re-mastered from high-definition Dragon Ball Z in April 5, 2009. The re-mastered version will include a re-edited story line, re-dubbed with the original voice actors, re-recorded sound effects, new songs for the opening and ending theme, including a new opening animation. The series itself will not broadcast in high-definition.
Still it's good to know that HD masters defintiely exist now, so a Blu release is still plausible

I got all the remastered box sets so far, not sure if i would shell out even more money for blu-ray editions, seeing as the dvds look so damn good. Maybe if there were some decent special features, behind the scenes stuff, interviews, original promo material etc.

I have the 444 episodes of the two first shows on DVD, I love it but I don't feel like getting the whole thing over again.

For me it will really depend on the price.

I've already invested a small fortune into getting the entire series (DB + SBZ + DBGT + all movies) on DVD (the Japanese release, mind you, which costs quite a considerable amount). If the quality is noticably better and the price is right, I might consider investing but it's very doubtful at this point. If they would offer some sort of 'upgrade' program ... then maybe ...
