Default Alltel And Verizon question

When The Merger Is complete, Well I (as a Alltel customer) be able to then buy the Black berry storm? I sure hope so!

IM guessing Alltel well be gone and it well just be Verizon?

I know Verizon bought out Alltel like 6-12 months ago. I would have thought by now, your money would go to Verizon directly. But if not, I see now Verizon is advertising it. It should happen soon, real soon.

I believe that the merger is almost completed
but there is an issue:

http://news.cnet.com/verizon-completes-alltel-purchase/

In order to receive approval from regulators, Verizon Wireless agreed to sell operations in 105 markets where Alltel also operates. As a result, Alltel customers in those areas will not be part of the merger with Verizon Wireless.

Alltel customers who are part of the merger will receive letters informing them that their service will change to Verizon Wireless, the company said in an FAQ on its Web site.

So it looks like if you live in one of the 105 markets where Alltel and Verizon were both available, you will not move over to Verizon, you will be sold off to a spin off company.

Eventually. It's funny you mentioned that, as the Blackberry Storm is the phone mentioned in phlydude's article...

And at least for the time being, Alltel customers will not be offered handsets for which Verizon Wireless is the exclusive carrier, including Research In Motion's BlackBerry Storm.

Verizon's version of "My circle" is that any Verizon Wireless customer you call doesn't count against your minutes.

you can get the Storm, just make sure you get it unlocked. Both of them use CDMA so it will work fine as long as it gets programmed properly and they register the CID to the network.

I'm almost positive that My Circle will cease to exist once everybody has been moved from Alltel to Verizon. I would assume they would send you some sort of notice letting you know when the merger is almost finalized and also give you the option to cancel without any early termination fees. Alltel has begun to cut the Verizon guy out of their smack talking ads lately, so . . . maybe soon.

Have you messed with a Storm? I think it sucks, personally. The almost pointless touchscreen really killed any excitement I had for it.

Because just touching it does nothing. You still have to "click" the screen to get it to do anything, which prohibits you from typing at any decent speed. I don't know why they didn't just stick with a true touch screen, or if they were trying to avoid the "feel" of a virtual keyboard, give it some sort of sliding affair. It's an obvious attempt toward people thinking about an iPhone, but not as user friendly.

Also, when I was playing with it, the software was God awfully slow. Took a good 5 seconds after I "clicked" an option to get it to actually do anything. I've heard the new update pepped it up a bit, but it was very unimpressive.

It was the number one concern of about-to-be-swallowed Alltel customers going into this merger deal, and now it's finally time for those individuals to breathe a huge sigh of relief. In a prime example of great decision making, the suits at Big Red have decided to not only allow ex-Alltel subscribers to keep their My Circle plans, but it's bringing the circle to "current and future customers [read: both VZW and Alltel] as a flexible way to control wireless spending." The news was shot out this morning in a message to employees (posted in full after the break), though there's no word on when Verizon Wireless customers can look forward to enjoying 5, 10 or 20 numbers of free calling each month. So, AT&T -- now that you're cornered between myFaves and My Circle, what's the reaction going to be?

Wow, that's VERY surprising. With Verizon's coverage and Alltel subscribers able to keep their plans, I'm sure that will save quite a few Alltel customers from bailing.

I agree that you should spend some time seriously playing around with the Storm before you buy. I had 2 friends get it and both returned it after a couple weeks because it was so frustrating. It also has gotten pretty poor reviews and is being seen as somewhat of a failure compared to the Iphone. I also would be wary of a first gen product like that.
Still, if I could have gotten it I would have probably just because it looks cool.
