The fact that more people here apparently were rooting for the villain of the piece clearly makes me question the strength and real success of a film that is about and centers first and foremost around -- you know -- Bruce Wayne/Batman.

I respectfully disagree -- the Joker only wanted to point out how inane and futile morality and justice is in his eyes and how anyone is corruptible and/or can be made into a villain.

I was on The Joker's side simply because he was trying to show how flawed the systems actually are. No matter what side you are on in Gotham, if it was organized, it was a target to him. I usually like the rebels in entertainment more than the protaganist if they have an agenda to open the eyes of the public to a truth.

Look at how 'The Dark Knight' ended. Now the people of Gotham are being lied to "for their own protection." That has been the attitude of many governments on this planet for centuries. And, all it does, it turn people into sheep who follow the path of those who control the flow of information as it controls the public perception.

Ok, I admit that his methods were a bit drastic for my tastes... but, his message is more what I'm talking about. And, since it is just a movie, I was with him all of the way! If it was a real life scenario playing out on the news, then it's a different story.

A bit of a double standard, yes. However, hyperbole is what makes action movies so enjoyable.

Plus, that doesn't mean that Batman, as a rebel figure himself, doesn't have my attention either. He was just drowned out by The Joker in this installment. I was with Batman 100% in Batman Begins.
