One of Naoko Yamada's latest anime film comes to BD this week.
I have yet to see this movie and I decided to blind buy this movie. If it's anything like Tamako Love Story or A Silent Voice, then it should be a great watch. Is anybody looking forward to this release? Release Date: 03/05/2019 |

It's pretty good.
For reference the JP BD stats (in case you want to list the US ones): ![]() Japanese LPCM 5.1 24-Bit Japanese DTS-HD MA 2.0 24-Bit (all the JP commentaries are lossless DTS at 24-bit, thus the video bitrate) (Scan by husky1993a) Shout BD confirmed to be a BD-25. |

BD-25 huh? Well that's understandable considering that the JP version is just under 24 GB in size.
My copy just shipped, so I'm looking forward on watching this. |

I just finished watching the movie last night, and it was very good and very calm and very relaxing watching it. I think Tamako Love Story and A Silent Voice were still better than this movie, but Liz and the Blue Bird still stands tall. It took me 40 mins to finally realize that this movie takes place after Season 2 of Hibike Euphonium. I thought it took place during the Jr. days for these two main characters.
As for the video quality, impeccable. I saw nothing wrong with it, no color banding, macro blocking or any of that stuff. The video size for the movie was just under 24 GiB, fully utilize the BD 25 disc space. I couldn't rip the movie since DVDFab is now outdated in order to get the bitrate count. |

The US BD is based on the theatrical version, not the Japanese home video version.
Comparison #1 Comparison #2 Comparison #3 Comparison #4 Comparison #5 Comparison #6 Comparison #7 Comparison #8 Most of the changes are fairly subtle. Not anywhere near as bad as Shaft. I'm glad that the theatrical version survives in some physical form, but it should have been released as a bonus feature. EDIT: ![]() WhY mY WrIsT hUrT? Having seen the Shout BD last night, the differences are OH so subtle. I’m not really mad we got the theatrical version, unlike if it were a Shaft film, as 99.5% of the film is most likely identical.
Really the only major change is that the credits have the Japanese text replaced with English text. Not a huge deal, but I’d prefer if it were kept the same as the JP release. That said, the encode is very good. I couldn’t spot any artifacting at all from where I sat (15 feet from a 55” 4K TV), and the sound was very good- I have no surround setup, so I just used my TV speakers and it was fine to me. I just wish there were actual extras on the disc. |

Video encode was good, but I noticed two instances with distorted audio (01:10:05-01:10:12 and 01:24:20-01:24:24). Don't know if other scenes are affected or if the distortions also present in the Japanese release. It's late, so I had to turn the volume down.
EDIT: Never mind, it was an issue with my setup. Lovely movie. Good enough to consider a double dip of the Japanese BD if it ever hits > 3000 yen, or if Dynit or Anime Limited do a release with the Japanese home video master. This frame appears for a split second and is also present in the Japanese home video release. It's not something that's noticeable in motion. Last edited by NLScavenger; 03-27-2019 at 02:22 PM. |

The German release is based on the theatrical version.
![]() https://twitter.com/LUCKYMIZORE/stat...99594494492672 --------------- I hope that the French BD uses the home video master and without locked subs. |

French BD is also based on the theatrical master. The South Korean DVD is so far the only foreign release with the corrected master.
