Default Receiver Options

Ok guys I have narrowed it down to these receivers considering which option I choose above.

Receivers to act as a pre/pro with the emotiva:

Marantz SR5003 90x7 3 HDMIs v1.3a Audyssey $599

Yamaha RX-V863 105x7 3 HDMIs v1.3a YPAO correction $674

Onkyo TX SR806 130x7 Audyssey $599

Receivers to push everything, NO emotiva:

Onkyo TX SR876 140x7 4 HDMIs Audyssey ISF video calib. $911

Onkyo TX SR905 140x7 Audyssey $943 with a 3 year warranty. Onkyo Factory Refurbished from Accessories4less.com

Yamaha RX-V1900 130x7 YPAO correction $974

Yamaha RX-V1800 130x7 YPAO correcton $700-$800

For the money in option 1, I would have to say I would like the Marantz 5003 or the Onkyo 806 since they are the same price but the onkyo has more power per channel for the same price.

For the money in option 2, I would have to say I would like the Onkyo 876. Onkyo 905. or the Yamaha RX-V1800. The onkyo definately has more perks, wattage, and a longer warranty. It also has Audyssey since I havent heard great things about the Yamaha room correction. I would have to say the Onkyo 905 would be a better choice in this option.

what do you guys think? thanks in advance.

I cannot make a comment about the Audessey vs. YPAO correction methods, but the Yamaha RX-V1800 is a solid receiver. I have it's HTR counterpart (see sig) and the YPAO works fine, just so you know.

I've heard that the ONKYO's can run rather warm/hot, so with the receiver being in that nice cabinet you have you might want to take that into account.

As you well know, there are pros and cons with everything, but I'm sure you can figure out which model is right for you. Congrats in advance on YOUR choice!

not sure about it now, because the guy who is selling it said he wasnt happy with the video processing of the 805. He upgraded to the 806, he said the 806 had better HDMI video processing. I have not seen either one of these receivers so I dont know. Its only 6 months old he said.

IM SCARED!

I would suggest getting the Yamaha RX-V1900 or the RX-V1800. Both have great amplifier sections and features. You can either use them alone or as your pre amp / processor as well. They are fantastic with both music and movies.

Here's a review of the 1800:

I'm just curious what Emotiva you have and what made you decide to sell it? Remember that receiver power ratings are usually based on 2 channel listening. The Onkyo 805 is one that actually comes close to its rated power with all channels driven. You'll definitely be getting more power from keeping the amp in your system than from just a receiver.

I had a horrible issue with im assuming a ground in my house. The hum would come out of the speakers and was annoying. Im not keeping a $500 piece of equipment if my speakers are humming from it. So I will be fine with a good receiver that pushes 140 watts per channel.

The emotiva is a great amp and it sounded great. Honestly, Klipsch speakers are so efficient that they sound great with just a receiver.

Default Why not Pioneer?

I was reading your list and when I was shopping for my receiver I was looking at the Yamaha 863 and the Pioneer 1018. Is there any reason you omitted that unit from your list? I have one and have loved it, the audio and video processing works flawlessly and its a great center piece for a mid level ht. Looking at some prices on the pioneer you should be able to pick up the xpa-3 and the receiver for 1100 or so. Just my thoughts either way you will be happy.

I had a pioneer and though I liked certain things, i was unhappy with the MCACC and its xover settings. the reason I deleted the 863 was because for less money or around the same, The onkyo 876 is a better overall receiver period.
