Default Your take on the Denon 4308ci or Onkyo 875

Well it has come down to the Denon 4308 and the Onkyo 875. Both of these products I have to special order with the eta at the end of August. We have all studied the specs of these products but the decision has come down to the denon been $750.00 more then the onkyo. I need some opinions real fast as I have to place my order by monday. Here is the dilemma I face:

1) $750.00 difference: is it worth spending the xtra coin on a similar product?

2) Denon - Faroudja DCDi Cinema 1080p upscaling, Onkyo - Reon HQV - I'm not sure which one is better.

3) Onkyo - THX certified, Denon is not - Is it better to have THX?

4) Both have 140 watts x 7 - Which receiver would have higher current, especially for audio in 2.1? ie) which receiver will light up my speakers better?

So there it is in a nutshell, please give your opinions as I would like to hear what you guys think.

hey man, i'm waiting reviews of these amps too.. along with the Denon AVR-2808 and the sony 5300ES, have you looked into these?

i was close to just getting a Onkyo 605 but i want my amp to perform great with music too as i don't have space for a dedicated stereo amp and a AV amp, *sigh*. i guess the wait will be worth it though

IMO the Denon is the choice. It far exceeds the THX numbers without paying for the label on the front of the unit. go and listen to the difference

Cool

For what it is worth, after a lot of research, I went with the 4308ci for its processing ability as I will be hooking it up to my McIntosh power amp (200 watts per channel). The Onkyo is a good product, but in a side by side listening, the Denon had a cleaner sound. Is it worth the extra money??? Your call. Within 3 to 6 months, there is always going to be something better.

Isn't your McIntosh power amp a 2 channel amp? The Denon has 7.1 channels and it's own amp. Maybe you want to hook up your music and use the McIntosh power amp as a music amp with the second zone output from the Denon.

hey i respect that, i wasn't bashing anyone with a Onkyo 605 or anyone who wants one, but its well known that a £400 av amp will not sound as good as a dedicated £400 stereo amp but as i don't have space for both i'm willing to spend more on a single av amp to get better performance in both areas..

i am however picking up a 605 this weekend for a workmate and he has said i can try it out so you never know it might blow me away and i'll go back for another one!
