Default Help Needed

Hi Everyone,

Hope someone can help me as I am having difficulty with a new portable BD dvd drive namely the panasonic uj 120. Initially it worked ok , but for some reason it has stopped. When I plug it in the usb my pc starts looking for the drivers, then i get a message 'a problem occured during hardware installation your drive may not work properly'. I have tried looking for it in 'my computer' but the drive is not acknowledged.

Running xp home, have no software unforunately to enable me to re install drivers.

Much appreciated
Zelda

Do the minimum system requirements for the drive fit your CPU setup? Sounds like the problem is they don't.

If you still have the box the drive came on, then check for the minimum system requirements like the Operating system that the drive requires, how much memory, etc.

If they match up with your system then it should work.

As far as the drivers situation do you have a installation CD that came with the drive? If you have that installation CD, then check first for the minimum system requirements, and if they match then reinstall the drive.

1) How many hard drives do you have?
2) Of the drives, do you have any partitioned?
3) Do you have any portable/external usb drives attached? (i.e. how may usb devices do you have attached?) Also, if you have a usb hub attached, how many devices do you have attached to the hub?

Sometimes Windows reacts this way if you have several usb devices attached.

What Service Pack are you running for XP Home?

Also, have you tried googling for the drivers?

I am running service pack 3 on xp. I do have 2 hard drives. However have same issue on my laptop running vista. Do you think it could be a problem with the drive itself. When I first plugged it in it was fine.

Try a couple things:

Option 1:
Check to see if drive shows up in "My Computer"
1) disconnect the usb plug for your blu ray drive
2) Select Start menu\My Computer
3) Plug in your Blu ray drive via usb.
4) Check to see if the drive appears
5) If error prompt appears again with no drive showing up then leave drive plugged in and try next option.

Option 2:
Check Device Manager for blu ray drive
1) Select Start menu and right-click "My Computer"
2) Select "Properties"
3) Select "Hardware" tab in window that opens
4) Select "Device Manager" button
5) Look to see if Blu ray drive is listed (should be listed by itself)
6) If listed, select the "+" symbol and then right-click and select "Properties"

If there look to see what the "Device Status" says. Also, you can select the "Driver" tab and "Uninstall" button to remove the driver. You can then unplug the blu ray drive and re-plug it in to see if it will install it correctly.

I did some quick searches and found something that really confused me. Every hit I get for Panasonic uj-120 list this drive as an OEM Laptop drive. Only hits i got for USB were off Ebay.

Have you tried it in another USB slot. This drive is powered only by the USB so make sure you are using a powered USB slot. Depending on how old your PC is, might be running on USB 1 and not USB 2.0 that is required.

I'm really hoping these aren't Laptop drives put into an external enclosures to make them "external". It could also be a firmware issue, a majority of these drives seem to be OEM so unless you know who originally sold it (HP, Dell, etc) you might have a hard time finding updates.
