Somethings just aren't for sale.

It is a shame that the one episode on the set that is left out is one of my all time favorites.

I'd probably cry tears of joy if Zombie Island got a Blu-ray, not exaggerating. I'm not overly nostalgic for these episodes of Scooby-Doo but I'm willing to support anything if it gives us a chance at Where Are You/Mook Animation films on Blu.

Honestly, I'd think having a trailer for the new Addams Family movie with a quick message message from Scooby and Shaggy saying "Coming soon to theaters from our pals the Addams Family" would be enough to get the episode on there. It would probably even get me go see it. Instead, I'll skip that Addams cartoon movie no matter what since they wouldn't work out getting the episode with Warner.

Right? Too bad a deal could not be struck.

Like I said, not the biggest Scooby fan. "Sub par" is appropriate for the show and franchise in question in my view. However, like I also said, if it helps get more H-B on Blu-ray, maybe that's worth it.

Besides, it will be much lower than $60 on release day.
I probably will upgrade, but at the same time it wouldn't surprise me if it was still between $55 and $60 on release day. The seasons are usually like $35 on DVD right?

Most Hanna-Barbera season sets are now below $20. Most are around $15, although a lot of them were just reissued with barebones discs and cheaper packaging.

I'm afraid I don't understand the question, so I will just give a little condescending history lesson.

On the yet to be released "The New Scooby-Doo Movies: The (Almost) Complete Collection" only the Addams Family Episode is missing.

There were a total of 24 episodes made, for the longest time WB could only get the rights to 15 of the episodes, which they released as The Best of the New Scooby Doo Movies, they finally cleared the rights and are releasing the the Blu-Ray set which has 23 of the 24 episodes. The Addams Family episode continues to be MIA

The lost episodes are also getting a standalone DVD only release for those who just want buy the DVD and add it to their existing DVD set.

Well hopefully this sells well so we can get the original Scooby Doo series on BR along with other Hanna Barbara series.

It's funny they don't release the Addams Family episode; they did air the episode not too long ago (2-3 yrs ago) in a loop (not 1 time but many re-runs) on Teletoon Canada along with all the other episodes that never made it to DVD. How can a company have TV rights for an episode and not have DVD/BR rights for the same episode?

You have to realize that up till the late 90's, reselling TV shows on home video was not all that common. So most contracts simply had broadcast rights because that's what was popular at the time. The introduction of of home video necessitated renegotiation for a lot of classic TV. That's why some DVD releases of movies/TV shows have songs replaced.

Home Video is seen as a separate deal from rebroadcast rights. So any number of things could be holding up the home release. Though I suspect it has more to do with the guest cast than anything else.

I'm a little annoyed I didnt find out about this sooner on the home page.

I'm excited. Yeah, it's not the original but it's a great start, even missing one episode

DawnShadow, I was about to ask what you meant until I reread milojthatch (that the 15 on the 1st DVD didnt get HD restorations at the time).

I dont have any animated Scooby but if I did, I'd probably still get the Blu-ray to get ALL in HD

Squeezed onto two disks.
Lossy audio.
Wrong aspect ratio.
One episode missing.

What a poor way to treat Scooby's 50th, I'll stick with the episodes on prime.

I'm out.

Lossy audio shouldn't really be an issue on a 50 year old low budget kids cartoon show. You won't notice it.
Squeezing them all onto 2 discs does seem questionable.
I doubt they will be the wrong ratio. Bluray is 16:9 so its quite correct to state that ratio even if the final release will be pillarboxed 4:3 as I expect it to be.
The streamed HD versions of Where Are You are also 4:3 within the standard 16:9 HD frame. No reason this should be different.

One episode missing is disappointing but if it was a choice of a set without one or no release at all I'd opt for the latter

Didn't read all posts, but none of them seem to mention the fact that the next, new Scooby-Doo series will be Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?.

The bluray release coincides with the new show this year which will be based on the 1972-73 "Movies" series, mixing modern and fictional guest stars. This is a common market strategy these days, except that for some reason this connection hasn't been pushed by the marketing.

E: Maybe they're saving a bluray release of SD:WAY? to coincide with the Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe movie coming out next year?
