The announcement gives me hope that we’ll see the rest of OG Scooby-Doo on disc. Some episodes of The Scooby-Doo Show, most of the Scooby-Doo & Scrappy-Doo shorts, and all of The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries has never been released. I would love to finally own those, even on DVD. Scooby-Doo was a huge part of my childhood, and while it’s obviously a children’s franchise, the series is what spiked my interest in horror, the macabre, the occult, mysteries, urban legends, and (to a lesser extent) teen fiction, and I still get some enjoyment out of it it as an adult. The original franchise had a fun campy atmosphere with memorable characters, and the early episodes had great artwork and music to appreciate (especially for Saturday morning cartoon standards).

I kinda hope that the 50th Anniversary stuff is only on the slipcover.

So what would be the reason in keeping the Addams Family episodes released? Would it be the voice cast only?

You summed it up perfectly. I’m honestly a bit surprised by so many recent classic animated series being announced on Blu-ray but am thrilled these releases are coming out.

Personally they should have done the original series first.

They are testing the waters first to see if this sells then maybe they will release more and eventually the series.

Would make more sense to sell the one that actually will sell. I gotta think the original series is a no brainer for sales

Not to mention, it's the reason for the anniversary. Weird to celebrate the 50th anniversary of a franchise without the part that's actually turning 50.

I figure it will be closer out in the Fall, to coincide with its its debut. Sort of like Batman was last year.

Thank goodness the Blu-ray has much nicer cover art. Not surprising that they're screwing us with Dolby Digital and only 2 discs.

How much better can these sound? And as far as being on 2 discs what do you want 3 or 4?

Speaking of that, I wonder how much Scooby's creators, Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, will be involved in the celebrations?

Based on your username I would think you’d understand the problem here. Have you checked out the Batman TAS thread? Way too much compression, that’s exactly why they’re pulling here as well.

Would it hurt for them not to go cheap? They could easily offer us uncompressed audio but they don’t care to invest money in producing a quality product. It’s ridiculous that less popular stuff that gets released through WAC gets stellar treatment and their popular content gets screwed for being popular.

Now I’m really curious about how these will look with the 1.78:1 Aspect ratio. Since these were 1.33.1 OAR made for tv I sure hope the cropping won’t detract from the enjoyment.

Other than that I’m in. These were my favorite Scooby’s ever made!

Good god, I didn't even notice that. I hope that's an error.

I've seen the HD remasters on Amazon and they're 4x3. If they crop them just for the Blu-ray, I'm going to be pretty damn pissed.

Here's 1080p screenshots from Amazon to hopefully convince some more people to buy

[Show spoiler]

Because yes, even though they're screwing us on the quality side, I'm still grateful for this release and I'm going to support it (assuming it's 4x3). I recommend others do the same.

The reason they are going the cheap route is cause they probably don’t expect this set to sell enough to justify putting all kinds of money into. Just like I said a few post up this release could be a test run and then if WB sees that enough people are interested then they would maybe release the original series on Bluray and put the real money into that release.

Given that we're talking about almost 20 hours of really grainy animation (see DawnShadow's screengrabs), yes, more discs would be easier on compression and video quality..

You'd have a point if they weren't charging $60 per set and hadn't given the exact same treatment to Batman TAS which was already a clear seller well before the release date.
