Default ENDLESS LOVE (1981) August 13, 2019

After all these years, the ultimate classic teen romance starring Brook Shields, Martin Hewitt, James Spader, Beatrice Straight, Shirley Knight and featuring Tom Cruise in his very first motion picture is coming to bluray by Shout Select on August 13, 2019.

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Endle...lu-ray/102151/

I was only 12 years old when I first saw this film and it left a powerful impression on me. I was emotionally moved by this film and the classic song ended up being my wife and I's song choice in our wedding.

I recently watched this again in Glorious HD already available on VUDU....and it holds up very well and still packs a powerful punch with some amazing performances by the entire cast.

Day one for me.

Glorious trash IMO but wish it came out years back. The HD streaming version cost a few bucks and paying $20+ for Shout's sometimes up and down transfers is not a given for me these days. Will wait and see what they do for extras.

I saw this movie many times as a kid. It’d probably come off as cheesy now, but I can’t wait to revisit it

I'm basically the same age as Shields and remember vividly how annoying it was to have the corporate media constantly promoting her.

Flash forward thirty years and I actually have a lot of nostalgic affection for much of this stuff now. This isn't a "great" movie, but it is earnest. Even when the dramatics required are beyond the actors capabilities (Hewitt's as much as Shields), it becomes endearingly cringeworthy.
A good movie that, at times, turns into a great bad movie.

I've been waiting for this release for years now, so I'm very happy for this announcement. I just wish it was arriving earlier in the summer instead of closer to the end.

I'd recently pulled out the DVD intending to watch it again soon. I probably won't now- but I do remember it looked pretty decent for standard def.
Unless SF screws it up, the master Universal provides should make for a nice looking disc.

I'm all in. I was of the age when this movie resounded with my psyche.

Threw the DVD in for a few minutes last night. It is good.
There's a little bit of ringing visible in some high contrast edges, but that's picking nits. it's not scrubbed and then edge enhanced and it has an admirable amount of texture for standard def bit rates/encoding.

If this hadn't been announced, I would have watched it again soon and had a fine old time.

Early 80's Film, Universal and "should make for nice looking disc" is certainly not a term I would use loosely ahead of release. They have the urge of adding DNR and EE to the bluray version even when the streaming version is perfectly fine left untouched.

Well this brings back some memories; I was about 16 when I saw this with some friends at a second-run theater (the kind that didn't care if you were underage for R-rated flicks) at a time when Brooke Shields was the "it" girl among my peers (unless one preferred the alluringly tomboyish Kristy McNichol ). I confess even back then I found it emotionally overwrought and silly, and Shields was barely more animated than a mannequin. The title song was more popular and enduring. Still, nostalgia can be a powerful thing for us collectors and I'm already feeling an urge to revisit this after all this time.

I read the Scott Spencer novel some years after the film's release and if I recall correctly, it painted a far more disturbing portrait of obsessive love than the more romanticised approach favored by director Zeffirelli. Speaking of obsessive love, Spencer also wrote WAKING THE DEAD, which was made into an underseen and decent little film starring Billy Crudup and Jennifer Connelly and directed by Keith Gordon (a good actor who directed several moody and interesting films). Where's the Blu for this indie gem?

It's good this movie is coming to Blu but it teaches an important lesson. There's many ways to show someone your love.
[Show spoiler] Arson
is not one of them.

Does anyone know the rights story behind JUST YOU AND ME, KID (George Burns, Brooke Shields; 1979)? A web search for talk about the forthcoming ALICE, SWEET ALICE blu reminded me of its existence. It was one of my favorite movies as a kid, and I had completely forgotten about it. Would love to see it again in HD.

Just You and Me Kid is a Sony (Columbia) title.

There is, or was, an MOD DVD of it available that looks fine for standard def. If it ever got released on Blu ray, it would likely be Mill Creek.

There is no digital release either so the Sony MOD DVD is the only option currently:

I'd also like to see Tilt get a blu-ray or digital release. It was only released on VHS.

Just read that director Franco Zeffirelli has passed at the age of 96.

Pinball In The Movies - Tilt (Trailer) - YouTube
Tilt was a Melvin Simon production that Warner distributed in the US. Since Warner hasn't done much with it in recent times, it's likely with the remains of Melvin Simon Productions who have worked with Kino Lorber for Scavenger Hunt and Severin for The Stunt Man, so having it come from someone in the future is a possibility.

Tilt's initial runtime was 111 mins, but due to negative reviews at early test screenings, Warner made the films director cut it down to roughly 100 mins in hopes of it doing better during wide release. Neither attempt worked and while the film bombed both cuts were supposedly released on video and TV, but who knows of what became of them not to mention if any film elements still exist at all.

I’d love to see a TILT release. Great music too
