Who would want to attend an anniversary reunion screening of Sweet Charity in LA?

I've only seen the first two episodes, but there have been several mentions of SWEET CHARITY in the FX series FOSSE/VERDEN.

I'm getting less and less interested in Fosse/Verdon from the excessively nonlinear storyline and nightmare/fantasy bits that apparently try to mimic his cynical style.
Also disappointed in the details of the blu ray release. Ignoring the nice original roadshow poster art and title logo in favor of the weird foreign versions, and a commentary by someone with no connection to the film instead of interviews with any of the dozen or so surviving cast members (including 3 leads). The only surprise is putting the entire film with the happy ending on a separate disc. Since we're only getting the same two production shorts and trailer that were on the DVD, i hope they at least remaster them in HD. |

I too am a bit disappointed with the Fosse/Verdon series so far. I'm still watching, but Bob Fosse is such an UNLIKABLE SHLOB of a man. The ONLY thing he has in his favor is his talent, but outside that....he is a unlikable poor excuse for a human being, and he did it all to himself.
I LOVE Michelle Williams portrayal of Gwen Verdon, but sadly, even SHE made some seriously disappointing choices in her life. I feel sorry for their little girl who deserved a better life. I don't like all the artsy fartsy style of telling his story in this show, they keep going back and fourth in time, it's kinda confusing. I LOVE the recreations of scenes from his work, but then they just gloss over other pieces with only a mere mention like the Liza with a Z television show. As for the Sweet Charity bluray....I too am not too happy with the acid-inducing psychedelic cover art. I prefer the original poster art as well. |

The cover art is just okay to me, but I feel like if they had to use that poster, they should've gone with the more saturated version which is more aesthetically pleasing to me:
![]() The desturated one they're using looks sickly in comparison. Like the rest of you, I would've preferred this one (which the French release used as inspiration for theirs which is made up of publicity shots): ![]() I'm confused as to why they're wasting an entire disc on a version of the film whose only difference is the lack of Overture, Intermission, Exit Music, and an alternate last couple of minutes. All that could've been done via branching with the roadshow version. |

For anyone who owns the French blu release, have you noticed the English audio volume goes down around the start of ‘There’s Gotta Be Something Better...’ and then creeps back up again - almost as if someone accidentally adjusted the volume control?
It could just be my copy or my av receiver. Anyway, hope this (if it is an error) isn’t on this Kino release. Matt |

But why wouldn't the happy ending version also be the roadshow version with overture, etc? If you're referring to the running time difference consider that the regular ending goes on to the following morning with Bud Cort and the flower children. The happy ending cuts briefly to Oscar's apartment and his running to the park but ends right after they come out of the water. |

And as much as we don't like the Belgiam poster art with the extra legs... Check out the ugly polish poster art they're putting on the reverse side.

Wow! $39.95 for a fifty year old flop with no new extras. Do they think the second disk is worth twice
The price? |

This is one of the movies that I would love to replace in my disc collection. The DVD version however has merits, not only in sound quality (Dolby Digital 4.0) but also for having the full 70 mm, roadshow version of this movie.
I find that 40 dollars for this release is way too much, and since no further details have been supplied I would rather wait for reviews! |

I confess to choking a tad when I saw that price as well. I'm having high h opes of the price dropping before it's release and went ahead and placed my order. I tried going to Kino's site to see what the price was by ordering direct, and I couldn't even FIND it in their pre-order section.
Does Kino normally release faster than street date like SHOUT does (2 weeks earlier)??? I've ordered from Kino before, but I just can't remember. |

Coming July 23rd on BD! Two-Disc Special Edition! Sweet Charity (1969) with optional English subtitles • Brand New 4K Restorations of Both Versions! • Audio Commentary by Film Historian Kat Ellinger • A Girl Who Wanted to be Loved: A Booklet Essay by Film Historian Julie Kirgo • Includes the original 151-Minute Roadshow Edition and the 145-Minute "Happy Ending" alternate cut • Edith Head Costume Design – Featurette • From Stage to Screen – Featurette • On Two BD50 Discs • Theatrical Trailer • Reverse Art of the Polish Poster Color 151 | 145 Minutes 2.35:1 Rated G From Bob Fosse, the legendary director of Cabaret, Lenny, All That Jazz and Star 80. Hollywood royalty Shirley MacLaine (Irma La Douce) gives one of her greatest performances in this spectacular musical based on Neil Simon’s (The Odd Couple) Broadway hit inspired by Federico Fellini’s Nights of Cabiria. Director Fosse broke new cinematic ground with this freewheeling, visually stunning story of a lovelorn New York dance hall hostess, Charity Hope Valentine (MacLaine), who dreams of old-fashioned romance but gives her heart to one undeserving guy after another. MacLaine joins all-star cast members Chita Rivera (Chicago), Sammy Davis Jr. (A Man Called Adam), Ricardo Montalban (Madame X), Ben Vereen (Funny Lady) and Stubby Kaye (Guys and Dolls) in belting out thirteen vibrant Cy Coleman-Dorothy Fields numbers including Big Spender, The Rhythm of Life, There's Gotta Be Something Better Than This and the show-stopping If My Friends Could See Me Now. It’s an unforgettable production of an all-time classic. |
