Nothing wrong with the player, and for $150 you couldn't get a better player anywhere. Samsung has 2.3 firmware out and promises 2.4 with DTS HD decoding.

Well....it seems that after all this I ended up going with the Sony's BDP S350 model. I went back to my local Zellers store with the intention of buying that Samsung 1500 player and then I saw that they dropped the price of the 350 player to $199! At that point it was a no brainer after all the praise I've heard about this player.

Just hooked it up 2 days ago and so far so good. I'm not getting the benefits of high def just yet as I'm using it on my standard def TV. My settings are set to 480i (unfortunately my set doesn't support 480p).

All I have left to do now is to save up for a nice HDTV. It's either going to be Samsung, LG or Sony.

Thanks for all the help fellas.

Why would you "try out" a Samsuck player when you can get a Sony, Panasonic or many others that actually offer customer support?
My BDP1200 experience with Samsuck customer support has taken the brand off my shopping list for ANYTHING!

I just posted this in another thread but felt it was relevant here:

In February 2008 I bought a Bd P1400 for $345.00, never worked quit right even with firmware updates. I called Samsung, they told me to wait for the latest release in about August. The player completely failed then. Now its out of warranty and they refused to help me with it. I have to have it fixed out of pocket now.

it gets better...

In November the BD P1500 went onsale at Wal-Mart for $199. I figured it had better reviews on this site then the 1400 so I bought it rather then have the 1400 repaired. This was very stupid of me....

After 3 months the 1500 player is exhibiting the same malfunctions as the 1400. Right after the warranty expiration. Samsung has been less then sympathetic to say the least. So at this point i'm down $545 bucks plus tax and have no blu-ray player to show for it.

Samsung has cost me a lot of heart ache over this and would strongly urge anyone to reconcider buying from them and chose another brand. I chose to go with a Samsung Blu-Ray because I had also purchased a 52 inch LCD from them last year. I feel so foolish now....

All I know is after my couple samsung players, my experiences being very negative, is that I would feel luckier playing russian roulette with a automatic weapon.

There must be a parallel universe that some people live in that have positive experiences with samsung. I've never met anyone except see the posts/reviews online praising their sammys. I would love to live in that place cause samsung is certainly innovative and does have nice features on their players.

Btw, an undocumented feature of my 1500 was it could keep a cup of coffee quite toasty if I actually wanted it too.
