I own a Vizio 37"VU37L LCD, I am very new to BD so I have some questions. I currently use the PS3 for BD playback.
When I playback a BD movie, the screen shows widescreen type Black bars on every movie I own. Granted I only own 3 (tranformers, I am Legend and Dejavu) so I was wondering if this is normal, or if its a setting in the PS3 I also had a question about the LCD itself. While changing settings on the PS3 I was able to change it to what I call 1080P. Technically the LCD says is is not 1080P Quote:
http://www.vizio.com/product.aspx?id=2719&pid=1698 However I can change the setting on the PS3 and the display on the LCD will change from 720p to 1080p. When I am viewing cablebox via hdmi, it says 1080i so is it possible the LCD will do 1080p and the tech specs say it does not? |

2.35:1 and 2.40:1 movies
Yes, it is normal for those three movies to have the Black Bars. That TV is 720p, it will accept 1080i signals but the native resolution is 1366x768. It will scale the source to fit. It will never display the picture in 1920x1080 - it can't. |

jstutman ... welcome to the boards. Don't worry about how much you don't know yet. Just spend a few hours here searching around and you'll be an expert soon. I have learned sooooo much by just surfing these boards and asking the occasional question. Most people here are very helpful.
Have fun, Brian |

Is the output of the player set at 1080? *HERE*, with my Comcast cable box, I have to set the "ZOOM" to wide because of Component connection. Otherwise, the image is squished side to side. HDMI from my laptops via HDMI are fine - once I told the computer to output to HDTV at 1920x1080(defaulted originally to 1024x768). Last edited by dadkins; 03-01-2009 at 01:53 AM. |
