Default Problem with my Samsung DLP

My 61in Samsung DLP tv is just over 2 years old. This morning it shut itself off. I turned it back on and it stayed on for about a minute before the screen went black, still had audio though. Then it shut itself off. Is this a bulb problem or could it be something else?? Any help would be appreciated.

Most likely the bulb gave out. 2 years seems about right for a bulb replacement. Find a local TV repairman that can verify this and replace it, or do ... it ... yourself ...

It's the bulb, Sorry dude. Well at least you had this site to ask so you won't run out and buy a brand new TV, you can just get the bulb replaced.

If its like my DLP you should see blinking lights around the power on button. Most likely the pattern will tell you its the bulb, but you may want to check this out. If you ever watched the sequence when it worked you should notice a difference. (Believe the Lamp light stays Amber and never switches to Green if memory serves if its the bulb)

If the bulb is not the problem it could be something much worse such as a bad board.

Do it yourself,....the bulbs are easy to replace. Just do not touch the new one with bare hands. Wear a pair of clean rubber gloves (dishwashing gloves) to keep the oil from your hand off the bulb,.....just like replacing a Halogen headlight.

We had Several of the Samsung DLP's where I work come back for the same reason. After consulting one of our service technicians he said that many of Samsungs lamp housing seals were not tight, causing the unit to shut itself down for it's own protection. This could be whats going on with yours.

According to the manual (HL-S5086W), if all three front LED's are flashing then the lamp needs replacing.

(Attached is a clip from the manual showing what the lamps mean.)

this is a bulb problem, my 56" would just turn off for no reason. change the bulb and regularly dust the back of the tv.

Bulbs burn out,...it's a fact. The good thing about it is that they are easy to replace,...the price is coming down,....and a new bulb usually equals a like new picture.
