Did this not ship early? I ordered it when it first went up for pre-order and usually they ship two weeks early right when pre-ordering direct?

So, it looks like the same source as the original BD with AVC and a higher bitrate?

They stopped that, probably not coincidentally after they were having those issues meeting ship dates last year.

Definitely not coincidental. I believe they made a public post during the disc manufacturing bottle-neck stating that they were going to stop offering the 2 weeks early ship times for pre-orders until a time they thought they'd be able to guarantee such again. I THINK some people have still reporting getting their pre-order discs a week or more early in recent months, but it was definitely more of a "surprise" delivery, and not something offered as part of the pre-order.

Does the Shout disc have better PQ than the FR disc and/or different extras?

Different extras for sure, added some new ones but missing a few from the French 2 Disc set.

Can’t speak on PQ as I don’t have my copy yet.

According to the BR review it’s the same transfer as the original release

Then the FR disc should be as good or better.

To clarify: the Shout Factory Blu uses the French master. There are also nearly 5 hours’ worth of new extras and a commentary on the Shout that aren’t on the French Blu.

So, the new release takes the cake then.

Haha, I'm glad he pointed out the vividness of greenery in the review instead of commenting on the black levels that were well known issue in the last release. Speaking of the blacks, I saw earlier in this thread that the weak blacks were also in the theatrical release, which I can confirm in my experience. I clearly remember the first scene where it goes to the other world and she walks down the alley with the lighter. It was all just a murky gray, and I couldn't even make out what she walked into that made a loud clang.

I'm guessing the 2.0 track is the commentary?

It’s possible your theater’s bulb was just dim; I had the opposite experience in the theater. I will never forget that moment because my friend let out a BLOODCURDLING SHRIEK when Rose accidentally bumped into the trash can. The French disc has that scene clear as day with inky blacks too.

Worth a blind buy? Rbarb's screenshots have me interested, looks like some really fantastic set design and camera work. I have a passing knowledge of the games but it doesn't concern me if the movie does them justice, so to speak.

Considering the otherworld scenes were shot digitally and the rest of the film was shot on film, it may have been an issue for some theaters to get the balance correct perhaps?

A good side-by-side has been posted by my colleague on Cinapse comparing Shout's French Master to the original US transfer: https://cinapse.co/silent-hill-scree...c-df1ed747428f

It's certainly one of the more well designed horror movies of this century. I personally think it's a great ride, very atmospheric and unnerving in certain sequences.

If I were purchasing, it'd be a blind buy for me too. Honestly, after watching some scenes on YouTube, I'm not really interested. The CGI effects look terrible in my opinion. Like, The Scorpion King terrible.
