Default The Conjuring Universe

A thread for all things related to the Conjuring universe. Please make sure to use spoiler tags where necessary. So far in the series we have:

The Conjuring
Annabelle
The Conjuring 2
Annabelle:Creation
The Nun
The Curse of La Llorona
Annabelle Comes Home

There is also Conjuring 3 planned for release on 9/11/20 and I believe another Nun movie is planned as well. There are rumors of a ‘Crooked Man’ film happening as well. You could include The Curse of La Llorona as well as it does include the same Priest. Let the discussion begin!

The first one is still the best but they are all at least decent. Creation was particularly good, IMO. The Nun was just OK and my least favorite. Still, I’m "in" so I’ll watch a third and final installment. Like to get them all in UHD eventually....

I thought James Wan mentioned The Crooked Man possibly getting a movie. Is it still happening or has it been scrapped?

I still need to see Conjuring 2 and the original Annabelle, but I’ve enjoyed all the others enough at least, though with Conjuring 1 and Annabelle Creation being the standouts IMO.

I do think they are running the risk of being overdone, with 3 films in less than a year (La Llorona definitely counts even if they downplayed the connection in marketing) being way too much, and may have already been seen to an extent in Annabelle Comes Home’s box office even if it will still be quite profitable. I don’t believe this can extended to the level of the MCU (even though this probably has been the biggest success of the other cinematic universe attempts at least relatively speaking), and probably good to focus on just Conjuring 3 and The Nun 2 for now and keep it to a film a year going forward.

2 films a year is fine.

Upcoming is also the Crooked Man.

Thus far I've really liked both Conjurings. Disliked Annabelle 1 & the Nun. Annabelle Creation kinda falls into okay category. Haven't seen the other 2 yet, but really looking forward to watching Annabelle 3 when it comes out on bluray.

In regards to the future of the Conjuring universe, I hope they focus less on spinoffs and more on the Warrens. I would really like to see the main Conjuring movies continue beyond 3, potentially 5-6 movies as the Warrens have plenty of stories they could go off of.

Also hope we'll get Conjuring 1 & 2 on 4K when Conjuring 3 comes out. Kinda worried as I expected Warner Bros to do that for the Annabelles & they never did.

Just did a refresher for Annabelle (2014) and The Conjuring 1 and 2 last weekend. Hoping to see Annabelle Comes Home either today or tomorrow. I'm one of a handful of people who loves the first Annabelle and get some genuine legit frights from it. A very effective late night horror film IMHO. I love The Conjuring but find it's ridiculous Hollywood happy ending to be a major flaw. Still a great horror film though. The Conjuring 2 on the other hand is a modern horror masterpiece! Such a great well made ghost story with great performances and amazing cinematography. No surprise there since I just realized on my last viewing that the great Don Burgess (who's fabulous Forrest Gump cinematography is one for the books) did it.

I haven't seen The Nun yet. Heard mixed things. I didn't really care for Annabelle Creation much at all though unfortunately.

Right now I'm way behind on these. I've seen Conjuring which was great, and Annabelle which was decent. I do intend to catch up before Conjuring 3 hits theaters though. I do have a question though: is Curse of La Llorona a part of this series or not? I'm getting mixed answers when I look into it.

I haven't seen that one either yet but from what I've heard it's not really. Just has a cameo with the priest from Annabelle (2014) and an appearance from the nun for some reason.

It is obviously part of the universe, but less connected that other films, just the Priest (who is only in two or three scenes) and a brief reference/flashback to the Annabelle doll. Sorta along the lines with Shazam and the DC Universe.

I can’t wait for The Conjuring 3. James Wan and Peter Safran said before that it was about a murder trial. But the fact that some news articles saying that some artifacts and ghouls in Annabelle Comes Home might be about The Conjuring 3 then the story might actually changed. I also don’t think they’ll spoil The Conjuring 3’s main entity. I still do hope it’s the murder trial because I think it will be a great new direction for The Conjuring Universe. Plus I love it when the main Conjuring films open some debates about whether the stories and hauntings are real or not.

The Curse of La Llorona needs to be added to the list.

That got very mixed reviews. I haven’t seen it but was going to skip it. Am I missing a lot of important stuff by skipping it?

My closet theater is 45-60 minutes away one-trip, not really feasible to see every movie I want in theaters. Besides, my watch-list is hundreds of titles long as is, so it's not particularly urgent.
