Looks awesome, day one for me. Good thing all of the Disney live actions have gorgeous steelbooks (except Cinderella, let's pretend that didn't happen).

Just saw it myself and, to me, it served absolutely no point in existing. It's a gorgeous film make no mistake there, but there isn't enough new and creative stuff to justify anything. I hate saying that, as I wanted to love it, but it's the same movie regardless of the claim by Favreau that it isn't.

Timon and Pumbaa were hilarious, but what's new there?

well that's the general consensus regarding this movie, why fix something that isn't broke in the first place, I'm gonna check this out next week, but ugh, a shot for shot remake? really, Disney and Favreau weren't really trying here were they?

They added a couple new things here and there to try to differentiate it, but nothing that set it apart. Lots of the dialogue remains unchanged. It's got an extra 30 minutes of essentially nothing over the original. For a film like this, I expected WAY more from a really creative guy like Favreau. My friend I went with loved it, but he's a Favreau fanatic.

Most things they added were a byproduct of the more "realistic" depiction. They removed most of the mystical stuff so they had add stuff like the scene with giraffe poop to explain why Rafiki knows that Simba is alive. It's stupid and less affective than the original but hey it solves the problem they created.
