Remember seeing this in 1979... that poster... the hope that this monster would be glimpsed.... but it wasn’t to be

Still have my DVD of this...will consider this if it has some decent extras....Frankenheimer is no longer around though... strange he made this type of film

Sadly it was only PG...

Frankenheimer ****ed this film up. He shot all this gore stuff and then cut it. Plus he was pretty much drunk the whole shoot. There’s an alternate ending with Maggie in an ambulance that I really hope they can hunt down. But I would love to see some of those uncut death sequences. I guess we will see.

You're welcome. :\

P.S. I also purchased Day of the Locust and The Parallax View, so those should be along on Blu-ray shortly as well.
And I just bought the HD streaming version. I think it was the combination of all three that must have done it.

Honestly this is one of my absolute favorites of all time. I adore that mutated grizzly bear.

Oh and this scene...this scene right here...is GOLD

I've had this on dvd for a few years and never got around to watching it. After Scream Factory announced this, I decided to throw it in today and see what it was about.

When the movie got to the scene of the kid in the sleeping bag, i busted out laughing so hard.

Ended up rewinding it a bunch of times and just watching it over and over, just eating it up😆😆

It's the kid's wimpy screams that sell it.

I thought the poster depicted mutant progeny, as seen when--if I remember correctly--at least one
[Show spoiler]of saucy mamma's deformed cubs was found waterlogged near a river bank
.

Fun vintage newspaper ad. Look at the ticket price! I loved the 70s/80s!

I remember seeing this on opening day in the theater. The audience was laughing throughout the film - we hated it. My friend, the late Larry Cohen was furious that the director had stolen and recreated the flashlight opening to Larry's IT'S ALIVE, for this film.
Larry once met John Frankenhimer and John had told Larry how much he love the beginning of IT'S ALIVE, that's how he knew. After PROPHERCY had been released Larry was at a party and saw John walk into the room, their eyes met and John quickly left. He knew what he had done.

The opening with the flashlights, was the most intense part of the movie! I actually like the movie, not love. The storyline is a little hokey, the deaths are not as gruesome as they should be and the creatures (the bears) are awful in most of their shots.

It does have strong acting, some good action setups, great score and it looks beautiful. A stronger creature design would have saved it.

I was 11 at the time. And having just seen Alien a few weeks earlier, made this one a bigger letdown, in the monster department.
