Smile 2009 announced and released discuss.

well this year i thought that blu-ray would come out fighting. but i wasn't really expecting it to be this good with whats been announced so far i should be able to replace most of my dvd collection. its going to be a expensive year replacing
with blu-rays. but i am so happy.

lets discuss.

is the global recession having a positive impact on home entertainment?
will we finally have cheaper players on the shelf before year end IE Xmas?
is there now enough big titles to tempt buyers into blu-ray?
do we now need a price cut to further tempt buyers?
is blu-ray going to exceed expectations faster that expected?

i have 20 titles so far on pre-order

I think we will have a great year because blu-ray players are dropping price
every month & basically every studio is releasing new and old movies
on blu-ray so I guess we will have to wait and see how this year plays out

As long as the prices of Blu-ray players keep dropping (and they have to) and the studios release the discs that show value for money (i.e superior transfers, additional supplements, digital copies?) then the world of Blu-ray will see great success this year and in the years to come. I also believe that the new release title price-points have to be lowered. I personally will not spend $30-$35 on a new release. Prices quoted are in Canadian $$$.

The Disney/Pixar titles can be as high as $36,which is ridulous, and as such I have yet to buy any of them.

well i firmly believe that this recession will be the making of blu-ray it has been long known that people stay at home more during harder times. many people here in the UK have had hi-def tvs now for years without any sort of hi-def content. thanks to sky" dropping there price this year to £49 for a hd box it will just be the beginning. blu-ray i think was held back last year most people didn't really know that Sony won the format war. i also don't think the price of the ps3 will be the deciding factor in terms of the future success of blu-ray
there will be better and cheaper players before the year is out it really needs to be out of Sony hands now. i never thought that the ps3 would be the all in one box that would define blu-ray. when the take up of blu-ray on 3rd party players
begins then i think Sony" can rest easy and think clearly about a price and the future of the ps3

how many people associate ps3 with the blu-ray format? could that be the sticking point in peoples decision in buying into the format

I certainly have been staying in alot more, and that in turns makes me buy more blu's.

There is a ton of titles coming out! and it's great to see some classics on the way.
Theres so many coming infact that I cant pre order them all.. I'm now just adding them to an amazon wishlist

The only problem I see over here at the moment is the lack of blu in shops.. I mean in my town not one place sells them since woolies closed!
