Default The Omega Man coming...

Good thing I just sold my copy of OM on Amazon for $39.99, because here comes the BluRay...in STUNNING 1.0 MONO! Woo-Hoo!!! I take it this will be the first BD released in 1.0 Mono? Also, there is no reason that the Special Features that are on the SD DVD should not be included on here...that is just plain ridiculous. Since there will lots of room left over by not utilizing a 5.1 or any REAL audio to speak of...there should be tons of room on the disc for TONS of special features.

Since I Am Legend is coming out on 12-14-07, the movie adaptation that OM is based on, I figured this may be released and I was right.

OM fans...get ready!!!

The Searchers was released in stunning 1.0 mono... but the visuals were so breathtaking, it made up for the sound... besides, the mono soundtrack serves to remind you that it is a classic before the age of modern postproduction magic

Yes, The Searchers is a classic that definitely has breathtaking visuals in Blu-ray. I'd recommend that anyone who doesn't have this movie in BD pick it up. It belongs in every videophile's collection. This is one of the films that is always included when they put together lists of the greatest American movies.

Heehee, I always refer to this movie when I'm talking about cell phone users. Charlton Heston thinks he's doing the right thing attacking all the freaks and then he finds out he's the freak and everyone else is normal.

Someday I'll get a cellphone and be normal, but for now I'm the Omega Man and all you cell phone users deserve to die, dammit. (just kidding)

Well, it appears the info on the disc have been updated. Now the BD seems to be mirroring exactly what is on the current SD DVD.

Question

I'm surprised that this movie has not been redone, like 75% of the other great Sci Fi movies. Is this title out in Blu Ray right now?

It's coming out on the 27 of November. Just FYI, it has been re-made. The remake is called "I am legend." , and it stars Will Smith.

I take it you have never seen Yellow Submarine? The new 5.1 Mix version that came out back in 1999? That is what I wish they would do to OM. They could leave the 1.0 audio on there for people like yourself, but for people like myself, I would rather HEAR more.

It seems like the new Will Smith movie is a remake of Omega Man. Would I be correct in assuming so?

It appears to have elements of the OM movie and the I AM LEGEND book. The new movie is more true to the book in that, the Family, are more like blood sucking vampires, instead of white faced hippies that "assumed" others with their "pretty marks" than draining them of their blood. In OM, Heston did not have a dog with him, in I AM LEGEND book and movie, Smith, who plays the same character as Heston [Robert Neville] has a German Shepard as a companion...so there are bits and pieces taken from the book and the OM movie....best of both worlds, you may say.

I own Yellow Submarine on DVD and even on VHS and I agree it sounds good but its not up to me to decide if its appropriate, its up to the director. If the director approves of going 5.1 then so be it even if the original audio was mono. Just like Soderbergh's Traffic which was shot in mono and later it was given the ok by Soderbergh to create the 5.1 audio.

Just like most people here I spent thousands on my home theater sound alone because great sound is vital but those are reserved for films that require it. But sure if they give an optional 5.1/6.1/7.1 track then good for the people who want it on films that don't need it. But to me it's just an extra I don't use and can easily do without when the film was shot in something less. I mean, can you imagine a film like M having 5.1 surround sound audio.

So in the end, to me its not about hearing more its about hearing what's right. Any ways most mono/stereo films that are made into 5.1 sound artificial to me.
