I used to do like themed months and January & the earlier months was just my time to catch up on what I haven’t watched yet. Since the fall movies don’t usually start going on sale till late March early April. Now the real question is how long does it take to watch a movie. I take lots of breaks myself so probably 3 to 4 hours for a whole film.

Sometimes it takes forever, so long that I end up just putting a sitcom on. If I have a plan then it's a quick pick but usually it takes more time than it should.

Pfft. Five movies a week (which isn't very many if that's how you like to spend your time) works out to 260 movies a year.

Thousands sounds like a lot but it's really not.

From then on, I was on a mission. You only have a little over 400, but just imagine thepeople who have thousands of blu-rays. They will never watch all of those movie. I bet the majority of those blu-rays are still brand new and sealed, and they're continually buying more. Unless a person is retired, and have a lot of time on their hands, there is no possible way that anybody can watch every movie in their collection, especially when they're working full or part time.
I retired when I was 44 and that was nearly 13 years ago. I am one of those with abundant free time and when I watch movies I usually watch two or more in a session. I also binge watch TV episodes, typically 6-10 in a row.

Even with all of that I still have time to pursue my other interests. I am real efficient with the usage of my time ever since every second of it became mine to use as I choose. It works out to 17 hours a day, every day, to do what I want and I get most of what I want done with time to spare. It is not even important that I get everything I own watched although I have made great headway. Rather, enjoying life, spending time with the people that I love, and sharing with them what I have to offer is far more important than getting every title I own watched. Movies are a hobby; they are not my job.

The size of my library is large to some and merely a nice start to others. Each title is neatly shelved in alphabetical order by format. Makes finding a specific title a lot easier. I simply do what I enjoy and I have no concerns whatsoever what anyone else thinks of my choices. Almost every single person that I know has a large collection of something; my something are movies and TV shows.

If you are happy with what you are doing and can do so without foregoing your essential needs and without causing harm to others, then carry on doing it. My only advice is to avoid the unnecessary use of credit whenever possible. Debt sacrifices your future, delays your retirement, in return for mere instant gratification. Avoid it!

I pull movies out from my shelves a bit, so they stick out, that I want to watch "soon." When it's time to actually watch something I just scan the movies sticking out, so it's faster. I also intentionally leave new purchases on their own shelf for a while so I know what's new and maybe prioritize that.

My movie choices are somewhat decided for me. Let me explain. Several years ago I was having too hard a time deciding what to watch. I came up with the idea of watching everything in my collection according to production year. I started with 1957 and have continued until now which is 1987. This frees me to take a diversion whenever I feel like it while at the same time having a plan to watch everything in my collection.

I do that too, for any title I've purchased but have yet to watch.

And yet, sometimes I'll still scan around looking for "just the right" movie.

I have my collection on MyMovies Pro App, so I scan through my collection and decide what I might like to see at any given moment without having to leave the comfort of my chair If nothing stirs me then I always have Vstock and BestBuy to peruse.

9 times out of ten, it takes as long to pick out a movie as most normal running times. And I wonder why I don't get through as many as I'd like to.

A couple of minutes. I have about 25 blurays in my pile to watch right now. It just depends on the mood I am in...

Usually takes me quite a while to figure out what to watch, sometimes 20 minutes to a half an hour unless it's a movie that I'm dead set on watching.

Sometimes it takes so long I end up not watching anything. I think I have way too many choices.

This started happening to me too much and I'd end up something stupid reality show on demand. Something I've been doing, which seems to be working, is that whenever I get an itch to watch a certain movie I'll put it on a watchlist (which I will only let get to 10 movies max) and when it comes time to pick a movie, I just look at the watch list and pretend those are my only choices.

First off, what a great thread, its been very entertaining to read everybody's comments, many of which I completely identify with, and I always thought it was just me!

Speaking personally, my current 'regime' is watching titles that I've either never seen, or haven't seen in a long time, while every other Saturday night is a three-film 'movie night' (MN) which typically follows some kind of theme (the last one was Saving Private Ryan 4K, Black Hawk Down 4K, and Coming Home) and on the other weekends I'll watch whatever takes my fancy, (this weekend will be Glass 4K and another title yet to be decided).

Sounds sad but I love it

At the moment my shelves are divided into two sections (i) those which are either watched or pending for the MN, and (ii) those that are simply watched or unwatched, which helps avoid confusion on my part.

What I also wanted to ask so do others here find that alcohol and movies are like oil and water?

Not long. 90% of the time it just randomly pops in my head without looking at my collection about what I'm going to watch.

I schedule the movies I watch every day. Most of the time I schedule them randomly but sometimes I schedule them when there’s a new movie from a franchise, director or actors and also according to the holidays. Especially here in our country we start celebrating Christmas season when BER months started so most of the time I watch Christmas movies during those months.

Happens to me half the time. My wife will go to bed early and I think, hey, I have a couple of hours, I'll watch something she doesn't like. After 30 minutes of trying to decide what to watch it is too late to start a movie and I just watch a show or play a game.
