Default question for double dippers.

I see tons of people saying they sold their old dvd copies because a blue version was coming out. My question is this... how much could you possibly get for a used dvd that is not oop like batman anthology?

Wouldn't it be better to just keep them or give them away?

Most people get rid of their movies where they can get like maybe $3-$6 for their movies and then just use that money to help purchase the Blu version. (At least thats how I do it)

Akira special edition, Cardcaptor Sakura, Tenchi Muyo OVA, When They Cry(1st edition), some other rare anime dvds that are discontinued from manufacture, and a few live action titles.

well if you look around you might find somewhere that will let you get $3 for the Matrix but thats probably at the most though or maybe like $2.50. Just trade in movies like at ebay or someplace like that.

I've been selling off some of my dvds as well. I don't get much, maybe $1-$5 depending on the movie but at least its something.

Most of the DVD's that I no longer want or need I give to my kids. (Who are grown with kids of their own). Sometimes I will trade them in at a local used DVD/CD/Record shop and get something else. Sometimes they have used Blu-rays for 10 dollars. I usually get 2 to 3 dollars for a used DVD on trade.

I go to moviestop, where you can trade any movie worth 1.50 or more into $4.00 per movie. With four movies of 1.50, they will either pre-order a new release DVD for free or you get the blu-ray for half off.

To the OP, know that I recently sold my Batman 8-DVD Anthology for 45€ on eBay. That's more than what I'll need to upgrade to the Blu-ray boxset when it comes out. I'm in no hurry anyway.

I've recently also tried to sell off my series on DVD (like Harry Potter and Spider-man) in order to get the Blu-rays instead. I don't watch Special Features anymore so I don't mind getting a bare-bones Blu-ray instead.

+1

Thats what I did. I had over 120 DVDs before I converted to BluRay. I sold each of them individually on eBay, and every single one of them sold from $0.99 to almost $25. I had a deal that each extra DVD purchased, to add $0.25 to shipping, and one guy in Jersey bought over 70 of the movies I listed. Kinda saved me the hassle of shipping them all separately.

Just a note, that was the biggest pain in the ass finding all those mailers, and shipping all the DVDs.

Not a bad price considering the resale value of DVDs today. I think thats roughly what I got for mine.

I give my DVDs to a friend of mine. Since I'll get diddly squat for the DVDs anyhow, I might as well help a friend out. This guy is so stubborn that he is holding onto his 800+ VHS collection and would never even consider an "upgrade" version of any of those films since he already has a copy. So, I need to get him realizing that DVDs are the way to go before he'll even begin to consider a Blu-ray collection. He says that Blu-ray serves only one purpose. To make people pay more for films again. He says that the quality doesn't even come close to justifying buying a film on the format, let alone buying ANOTHER copy of the film if you already have it on DVD or VHS.

I've given a fair number of mine to friends as well. These are friends that have a habit of watching movies I think are terrible, while failing to see true classics or blockbusters.

I just went through my DVD collection and weeded out all of my older non-anamorphic discs plus those that I also have on Blu and found I had about 20 of them. I'd be lucky to get enough money selling them to buy 2 Blu-rays, so I decided instead to ship them to a friend out of state that is recovering from a really rough surgery. She's a total movie nut so she was thrilled to get them.

I've been giving mine to my sisters and their kids as I replace them. I probably won't try and replace everything...just my favorites and all new purchases where possible.
