I'd like to see BBC reissue Twice Upon a Time in a 4K/Blu-ray combo package. But I'd also like to see them release Series 2, 3, 4 on Blu-ray (yes, I'd like to see the extras on US players). Heck let Warner make them available through the WAC. Well, I'll put aside the Christmas list for next year. Every Christmas is Last Christmas ...

I don't know how long the sale will last at BBC, but here's the 4K variant for $9.59 plus around $6 shipping. There's other Who misc on sale as well.
Must be a Boxing Day thing. Toss in Dunkirk for $14.39 might be worth the postage. YMMV. |

Me too :/ I would have loved to buy Planet Earth II, Blue Planet II & Twice Upon A Time on 4K otherwise...

The BBC did a fine job with the frame rate slow down compared to the past efforts prior to the UHD specs. These 25p masters were dropped by one frame per second and the audio was adjusted. Would I have rather had the 25p rate be maintained as that is an accepted 4k frame rate (like 50p)? Of course! However, there is no great reason to not purchase these various BBC 4k discs. They look pretty solid.

Found a good deal, but not sure if I'm up for a slowed down transfer just for the HDR that I can't use yet anyway (planning on upgrading soon though). How noticeable is the slowdown compared to the regular blu-ray?

None of the BBC 25 fps content converted to worldwide 24 fps has noticeable motion artifacting so far on UHD Blu-ray unless you really know what you're looking for. Part of it is because the conversion takes place in the progressive domain nowadays. Color and compression are improved too.

TBH I only really noticed it during the opening and closing titles, even slowing down the theme tune just a little leads it to sound noticeably different. Apart from that, it's unnoticeable.

Same, I notice it slightly on the titles... especially Tennant's... but pretty much never any other time.

Though if your copy doesn't have the theme tune, it sounds like you might have a bad copy. |

This thread being bumped has reminded me to look and realize that Season 11 has still not been announced for 4K. That's disappointing. I didn't get the original set right away because I figured the 4K would be released eventually, but I think it should have been announced by now, right?

Either that or TUAT just didn’t sell well enough to justify more 4K Doctor Who releases for BBC. |

Of course it’s also possible that BBC just aren’t going to reissue Series 11 on 4K or are waiting until their current line of New Series reissues as steelbooks is completed (of which only Series 5-8 are left if they only focus on Series that don’t have steelbooks). |
