Default The American President....coming soon

It has been stated the "The American President" is coming to BD soon. No release date or detail are given yet. I thought this was a great movie, lots of humorous moments from Michael Douglas and Annette Benning.

From Digital Bits:

By the way, consider this Rumor Mill-worthy, but we've also heard from our industry sources that Rob Reiner's The American President is in the early planning stages for Blu-ray release. There's no release date yet, but it's definitely on the studio's "to do" list. We'll keep you up to date on all of these upcoming releases as more information becomes available

Would definitely be a first day buy for me, still one of my favourite movies and I love any opportunity to get one of those horrid cardboard cases.

Watched this the other day on HBO, great movie. It's one of those movies that I'll often watch on TV but I can't see myself ever actually deciding to watch on Blu-ray though, so I doubt I'll pick it up.

So is there actually any new news or was this just another useless bump?

I enjoy this film a great deal, though in recent years I've become rather wary, after noticing the somewhat "liberal" slant of the story. For example, in his final speech to the press, the President describes the ACLU as "an organization whose sole purpose is to protect the Bill of Rights"...when in fact, they actually trample the text of the Constitution any time it doesn't suit their own ends. When I realized that kind of thing was part of this film, it made the whole thing rather bittersweet for me. I still think Michael J. Fox delivered one of his best performances in this, though.

I didn't notice this thread was over a year old, I figured it was a new thread. No new news on this title.

Default Great Dialogue, Great Acting, Great Film BUT...

This will be a wish come true if the video quality is up to blu-ray standards, because the DVD was absolutely, incredibly, p_ss-poor. And that's being generous. Having rented this movie a while back, and knowing the horrible video quality I still bought the DVD about a year ago, because I think the interplay between Douglas, Benning and Sheen is just top-notch, and the dialogue was so good as to be memorable. But the whole thing looked like you were viewing it through frosted glass - it's just about the most hideous transfer I've ever seen. Let's see what they can do for the blu-ray release.

I would bet this will come to Blu-Ray around the time Aaron Sorkin's new HBO series premieres, since they're the same parent company.

Darn, I keep hoping it was that PBS series that covers mini-bios of all the presidents up through Clinton, including the ones you've never heard of:

(Good stuff, btw, and better watching than that corny Michael Douglas movie. )

Love this movie.

The opening titles and the ending are my favourite parts. It opens and closes SO well.

This movie was a guilty secret pleasure when I was a teen. Now I feel ok to admit yes I am a fan of it for all its charm humor and fun. (and knowing who sorkin is now is a huge coo for my love of it)

A decent film, but it's only a warmup for bigger and better things from Aaron Sorkin, i.e. The West Wing. Can't wait for that to hit Blu.

I doubt it ever will. As I understand it, TV shows of that era were shot on film but edited on tape. To create a HD master, they have to go back to the original footage and recreate a negative from scratch, as they're doing with Star Trek The Next Generation. It's monstrously expensive, and I suspect only a very few shows will ever see it happen.

Much as I love The West Wing, i can't see it being one of them.

Oh my are you out of the loop... hehe

West Wing is available on itunes and amazon download - ALL seasons in HD (720p)!!! Meaning, the show has already been re-edited from film footage and scanned at high definition probly 2k.

All that would be left to do by Warner is master the lossless audio, and work on some new features I hope...

I haven't purchased any episodes im holding out for the inevitable blu rays

Wow, I guess it was produced recently enough that they were already thinking about HD. Good to know!

Would also love to see "WW" hit Blu. I've not seen all the epi's, but I own all the DVD's. Takes a lot of commitment to sit down and watch 150 (or however many) 42-minute episodes. I end up watching too many other things too many times. I own way too many shows that I never get to watching.

Just saw that "WW" seasons are all $13 at my local Scum's Club. Great deal.

From the second season on it was broadcast in hd (1080i). Should be no problem to go to blu-ray at least for those seasons.
