Default BLOCKBUSTER bankruptcy rumor AND $1 RENTALS AT Walmart are very popular with Red Box

Both BlockBuster and Netflix are great places to rent BLU-RAY movies. Today Blockbusters stock plunged 77% to 22 cents on a bankruptcy rumor. Hopefully Blockbuster does not go under like Movie Gallery did. Then consumers would just have Hollywood Video and Netflix to choose from.

I have read the $1 BLU-RAY and DVD rentals at Walmart are very popular. I know www.redbox.com has over 12,000 locations with many Walmarts carrying the automated machines.

Coinstar buys out Redbox, will test higher Blu-ray rental prices

Click on this link for the closes location to you.

I have not used them yet but you can reserve your movies online and then pick them up at a Walmart automated machine or other store that has the automated machine. They are not located in every city yet and perhaps some states do not have them yet.

I do not know how many states they are located in. They only have 12,000 locations nationwide. Sorry I do not have enough details. The BLU-RAY rentals for a $1 might go up in price in the future.

I see Redbox machines in supermarkets all the time, but I never see them stocking BDs.

Here in Alabama and Georgia, they seem to be all over. When I worked at Blockbuster about 3 years ago, we were always told it was a possibly of bankruptcy. SO it would not surprise me.

Both the Wal-Marts in my area have Redbox, as well as 2 grocery stores and a Walgreens. I would gladly pay $2.00 if they'd carry Blu-rays in my area. It is nice to reserve it online and then just swipe your credit card to pick it up.

I have not seen a BLU-RAY yet at a Red Box location. Only select locations stock BLU-RAY's for a $1. If they would expand BLU-RAY's to all locations I would pay $3 or $4. Some one should launch a nationwide BLUE Box rental system that stocks 100% BLU-RAY movies.

Quotes

"Now you can rent Blu-ray Discs from redbox kiosks at select Walmart locations. That's right, friend, get the movies you want, in the format you want, at the price you want to pay: Just $1 per night. Here are just a few of the terrific Blu-ray Discs now available at select redbox locations - something for everyone in the family!"

"Blu-ray Discs aren't available at every redbox kiosk, and they aren't available for online reservation, they are available at these redbox locations near you:"

Well since Blockbuster changed their terms on Total Access AGAIN without notification, I'll be leaving for the last time, and I'm sure many others will too. That will definitely take a toll.

Not surprised about the Blockbuster news at all.
My wife and I have recently been renting from Redbox locations and we love it. I mean cmon, $1 is freakin awesome! If the movie sucks oh well, it was only a dollar. None of the ones around here have Blu-ray's in them though. I'm hoping they will start carrying them. We have been renting movies were interested in and if I like it enough I'll go buy the Blu-ray. Beats paying $6 to rent one Blu-ray, for that we can rent 6 movies.

Wow, my local WalMart has a redbox. If that redbox began carrying Blu-Ray movies, I think I'd rent TONS of movies.

When I click the link, no locations show up and it looks like they only have 5 movies available.

The Wal-Mart store near me has a Red Box in front of the store in the entry way but all dvds.

*I'm glad I don't rent movies or games*

FYI, Movie Gallery owns the Hollywood stores.

I work for Blockbuster (not corporate) so I'm not going to speculate on rumors of bankruptcy. However I will say this, if they do file for chapter 11 Blockbuster is going to be fine. Remember chapter 11 =/= chapter 7 (which is what happened to Circuit City). Blockbuster just has a lot of debt right now, that's the problem.

Movie Gallery filed for chapter 11 last year and climbed out of it....that's why you still have Hollywood/Movie Gallery stores still around.

Jan and Feb has some of the worst titles I've ever seen before. If you include the economy mess with the rising popularity of vending machines, yes if you have a lot of debt you're going to be in trouble. Blockbuster could easily combat the vending machines by putting their own in locations. Heck make a deal with Best Buy and Target lol. There are options to fight back, I'm not sure what they are going to do though.
