Default Blockbuster Blu-ray -- Question about Rentals

Hi all, long time lurker, first time poster! Here is my situation, I received two BD discs from BB, Apocalypto and Punisher. They load up fine, but Apocalypto skips about 1/3 the way through for a few seconds and then freezes. I can start at the next chapter but whenever I try to go back and watch the scene it freezes again. The same thing with Punisher, but closer to the end with about 30 minutes left. I looked at both of the discs and at first they looked perfectly fine, but looking a little closer there are a couple of very small scratches on the discs (maybe they were dropped???). First, would this be causing the freezing? Second, does the toothpaste trick work with BD?

Has anyone had this problem before? I've rented about 12 titles, and only these last two have given me problems.

Edit: I'm using the PS3, latest firmware.

I have had this problem with one of my Netflix Rentals Reign of Fire. Simply go to your queue and click on the report problem link. There should be an option for damaged disc or something like that click it and send the report. BB should send you a new disc free of charge. At least thats what Netflix does.

P.S. Ive never heard of the toothpaste trick. Sounds messy. And I wouldnt want my discs smelling like Spearmint

Thanks guys, yeah I know we can report it, but I'd like to watch the films instead of going through the hassle of sending them back and waiting for replacements. With DVD I would fix it with a repair kit in a few mins or do the toothpaste trick (worked a few times) but wasn't sure if it was safe to do with a Blu-ray disc. Are there any repair kits for BD discs? Can these be fixed?

haven't tried this yet....take a banana and rub it over the back of the disk(obviously), next take the peel and rub it over the previous step(all of this was done in a circular motion). wipe this off with microfiber then use window cleaner and wipe that off. saw it on a video. i know it sounds stupid but who knows. if you try it, let me know how it turns out.

let the stupid comments begin...

Does your local BB rent Blu titles? If so take the disc there and see if they get you a replacement copy.

Ok I didn't try it with the banana, but the toothpaste trick definitely does not work. Made it worse. I think I'll pass on the banana trick, it does sound weird. I shouldn't have to rub bananas on my disc lol, let alone toothpaste.

I've had a couple of badly scratched or damaged Blu discs come from Blockbuster. 16 Blocks had a pretty sweet crack on the edge of the disc which made the last ten minutes unwatchable and Reservoir Dogs came through looking like someone had put it under the foot of their fridge and slid it across the kitchen tile (surprisingly, only the first five minutes of the feature weren't playable).

If you click "Report a Problem" in your queue, they're usually pretty quick sending a replacement or another disc. I just hope they're not putting those discs back into circulation when they get back to Blockbuster HQ.

I must in the minority- I've had no trouble getting Blu discs from BB... in fact, I received Vacancy yesterday day-in-date with the release which was fantastic (even if the movie was pretty ho-hum).

DO NOT USE WINDEX OR ANY OTHER PRODUCT CONTAINING AMMONIA TO CLEAN YOUR DISCS. IT WILL STRIP THE HARD COAT.

"Very long wait" is only half the trouble. I've had Final Fantasy in my queue at the first position for over a week now and it's been "available" the whole time, yet these bastards at BBuster are refusing to ship it to me. Don't ask me why. And it keeps happeing with other movies as well. They're really getting on my nerves with this crap, and I am considering canceling my membership with them for the second time in a year and a half.

This is why I canceled my blockbuster membership. If it's not going to ship don't tell me that it's available.

BB has a low stock on movies and it didn't help that they had a surge in membership. I tried the Netflix free trial and every movie that was in my BB queue with a very long wait was available now with Netflix. Needless to say I am getting most of my movies from Netflix, I have the cheapest rate with BB just to get the free game a month.

P.S. if you have 40 movies in your queue call BB and complain, I got some free E-Coupons.

Yeah my local BB only has one copy each for it's Blu Ray titles. Every time I tried to rent 300 it's never in! Try Netflix, I got the movies in my queue in a couple of days, completely scratch free.

My local BB carries about 60-70 Blu-ray titles, I guess I'm lucky. People seem to actually take care of the discs, so I haven't had any scratching problems
