Default Opinions on this Sub

ESW-10 Does this look like a good sub, and how would it compare to others in the $275-$350 range?

Not very well. At $350, you could get many other subwoofers, like the A2-300.

OK, cause I can get it for $185 and I thought it would be a great upgrade from my Sony. But NO?? Is there another one to go shopping for in this price range? The issue with the eD sub is one can't get it in that price and two, someone would be using it as an ottoman in my living room.

If your budget is less than $200, look at the offerings from Acoustic Audio. You get much better deals.

thanks Big Daddy, I think I will look into those, they look nice, I have a house that has raised flooring, is it better to go front vs down?? or does that not matter? I am thinking 12", what would be a good suggestion. Thanks

In general, it doesn't matter whether you get down-firing or front-firing. If you have hard wood floor or concrete, it is recommended that you put a good size area rug under the sub. 12" sub is a good size and should keep you happy for a while until the upgrade-itis bug hits you again.

Another couple of bargain bang-for-your-buck subs are the Bic H-100 and the PA-120. Let me know if you have any questions about the PA-120, as I own it.

The HD-Sub12 is front firing, has a stronger amp, and comes in three colors. It is more expensive, but has more WAF appeal.

The RW-12 sub is down-firing, has slightly less power, and comes only in black. It is cheaper, but less attractive.

I haven't heard the RW-12, but the 8" down-firing version was pretty impressive.

The HD-Sub12 is probably louder, but my guess is that if they are properly broken in and calibrated, you won't be able to tell the difference.

Big Daddy, You seem to have a vast sum of insite to these Subs, let me ask a few questions

1. Will the 23-200 hz RW-12 vs the 20-200 hz HD-Sub12 is the lower 3 hz gonna be a big difference in what I hear and experience?

2. Are these Subs accurate? Are the muddy? I mostly watch BD's with music being about 10% of the time, would either one be better?

3. In a room the where the size measures approx 13W x 16L with the width to my front and back and the length is right to left, how much wattage would I really need from a Sub?

Thanks.

EDIT: didn't see your post.

1. No, the 3Hz is meaningless.
2. The HD Sub has high sensitivity with a high powered amplifier. It can get very loud. There is no doubt that it will make your movies more satifying. It is also very attractive. I only heard the 8" version of the down-firing one. It was pretty impressive for its size. I assume the 12" version is even more powerful. They are not the most musical and greatest subs on earth, but they are good value. Just a plate subwoofer amplifier can cost more than $200. A good 12" driver is between $100 to $200 and a box can cost you $100+-.
3. Either sub will make you happy. Placement of the sub is more important than the power.

I am gonna be pairing these up with some Energy towers and center, I don't want to over power them because they have a nice warm sound, I am kinda leaning towards the down firing sub for price and I don't want to over power my towers. I has to be better then my Sony Sub no matter what..... its 20-200 response (according to the spec sheet) but only 180 watts and that fills the room pretty good already, adding another 120 watts will prolly be pretty overwhelming.... you think?

EDIT: the RW-12 has the same sensitivity. The HD Sub does look nicer tho. HMMMM

As long as you calibrate your subwoofer properly, you should be ok with either one.

Well, I am gonna go with this Sub, the RW-12. I have a guy (customer of mine) that is interested in buying up my Sony speakers & my extra Sony receiver for about $350 total, so once I have them sold or about a week or 2's notice, I am gonna pounce on this Sub, thanks Big Daddy you have been really helpful here. I decided on this due to size and price and most importantly functionality (specs), plus I am gonna see if I can sneak in some Energy C100 surrounds since I am going a little less expensive on the Sub.

Good luck. For a $140, you are getting a good deal. There isn't a lot of risk. It is not as if your spending $600 for a sub.
