Default decent prices for new releases on Amazon.ca

Check out Amazon.ca for some pretty decent prices on new releases.

Picked up Requiem for a Dream for $16.99. (Got BB to PM)

They also have Rounders and Good Will Hunting for the same price, and some others.

Not sure if this has already been posted. My bad if it has.

Any post about deals is a good one, as there is always someone out there that hasn't heard of it!

Glad to hear though that Amazon.ca is finally getting a little better with their pricing. Now if only they could get a larger selection and include vinyl, like they do in the U.S. and U.K. (sorry, my little parting shot as I'm a vinyl lover).

What's going on here is that these are Alliance Canada-only releases which seem to have much lower MSRP's. These are not even much higher at BB/FS and in many cases. Also Walmart has lower prices than Amazon on some of these Alliance titles.

If you think amazon.ca prices are getting better, then check out Pretty Woman on Blu-ray. Only $31 for a catalog title

Amazon's price is mostly based on fixed percentage discounts of MSRP. So it's really the Canadian MSRP's that set the price. Since Disney is coming out with crazy Canadian MSRP's and Alliance has very reasonable MSRP's this is what we get for prices.

I meant "in general"...which means don't compare it to a single title. I can shoot holes in any sites best prices by quoting the exception.

Is amazon.ca pricing still too high....absofreaginlutely! But their pricing is better now than it was even a year ago.

But again it's all based on Canadian MSRP's set by the studios. Amazon just gives their 30% discount off of that in most cases. Yes Amazon.ca usually do have the best prices (other than Columbia House) in Canada and it is better than before.

It is Alliance and their featureless Canada-only releases. Maybe because they are featureless and all on BD-25's they have decided they can sell them for a lot less. I'm not really sure why but it's nice to see. Check out Walmart too on these. Some of their prices are lower than amazon.ca.

I don't mind the lack of special features at all (never watch them) . Give me a good pricepoint for the movie and I'm all over it.

Exactly - I totally agree! I hope there are many more releases like this and maybe other studios will follow suit.

tough shopping at Wal-Mart for blus. I hate that their movies are behind glass doors, plus the fact that the movies usually don't have sticker prices on them. so I have to spend 5 mins looking for an associate just to find out the price?

agree with John too. I'm not a special features guy. I've watched maybe 1 special feature in the past 2 years, so I couldn't really care less. i just want lower prices!

Not behind glass at the walmarts around here. I just use the check the price yourself scanners if not sure. Not that walmart is always the cheapest but worth a look.

+1...Wal-mart pricing is very often wrongly identified....so scan the item and if there is a difference, fight for the lower price. They'll adjust it! I know, I've done it many times!

Well I recently ordered and received The Butterfly Effect and Good Will Hunting through Amazon Canada. The picture quality is good and they have lossless sound tracks. But I noticed something that is really lame about these Canadian Alliance releases.

These 2 titles (and I assume others) do not have any extras or subtitles. That's not such a big deal, but here's what I really don't like about these blu-rays:

There is no master menu! When you load the disk and press play, you are never greeted with any Master screen. Now here's where it starts to suck even more. When you're watching an American Bluray, you can bring up the pop-up menu to show things like "MAIN MENU", "SCENES" or "SETUP/LANGUAGE. " Well the only thing that appears onThe Butterfly Effect and Good Will Hunting is the option to select the audio soundtrack.

There's absolutely no option to directly select specific chapters or scenes! You have to use the FF or RW buttons on your remote to skip forwards or backwards throughout the movie! I mean c'mon! Even regular DVD's allow you to see a list of chapters. Have any of you bought any of these Canadian Alliance releases? I must say these are pretty weak.

i picked up seven on bluray about 3 weeks ago which is an alliance release with the same deal as your titles.. no menu/ extras etc. i couldnt care less about the extras, i do agree that i would have liked the menu cuz its pretty basic in any film so a minus for that, but the pic quality was fantastic and for the price i paid for it which was only $10 bucks brand new! i was willing to sacrifice the menu for that price... i was happy w/ my purchase.

Amazon hasn't been too bad with some new releases. Transporter 3 was 24.99 on release day I believe. Don't hold me to that because it's 27.99 now, but I swore I saw it cheaper for a couple days. Save a few like that, their prices are still expensive for new releases. What makes amazon so attractive to me is I get my shipment within two days with standard shipping. I can't find anyplace else that can do it that fast.

The biggest disappointment I have with Amazon.ca is the fact that it's very limited(product wise). Look at the amount of things you can buy on Amazon.com, TV, receivers, speakers, and all kinds of things, but Canada's version of the site is mostly movies, books, mp3 players and cameras etc. I'd put up more of a stink about this if I actually believe it was needed. There's simply not enough people in Canada to put all those products on the site and make it worth while to physically stock in a warehouse.

It'd just be nice to see more products on the site is all I'm saying, but I understand why they don't.

However, they should include subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing. A lot of these Canada-only releases lack subtitles.
