More Sneak Peeks at Upcoming Blu-ray Titles

Tags: Disc Announcements, Fox, Buena Vista (all tags)
The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) has issued a few more tantalizing Blu-ray release tidbits ahead of a major format announcement scheduled for this Thursday, including a sneak peek at Fox's first Blu-ray disc titles.

In a press release issued late yesterday, the BDA revealed that Fox's initial Blu-ray wave will include such tasty titles as 'Fantastic Four,' 'Ice Age,' 'Behind Enemy Lines,' 'Kiss of the Dragon' and 'The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.'

More titles due to be announced soon include another Blu-ray batch from Buena Vista Home Entertainment by year's end, including 'Kill Bill Vol. 1,' 'Armageddon' and 'Ladder 49.'

Also hinted: a new studio format partner for Blu-ray. Given that the only two major remaining studios yet to formally announce Blu-ray support are Universal and New Line, the official news should be exciting indeed.

The BDA had previously hinted at these major Blu-ray developments via an announcement released to the media late last week.

Expect specifics to be unveiled this Thursday when the IFC convention kicks off in Berlin, Germany. We'll certainly be there for the big announcements, so stay tuned for full details as soon as they come in.
Ahhhhhhh, yeah!

I figured that those would be Fox's first titles, as those are the titles that had box art at CES... I can't wait for thursday's confrence. Although then I'll be on edge to get my Sony player and start watching some of these great flicks.

I'd be happy to own Kill Bill Vol. 1 in HD. Maybe a couple others from the list but definitely this one.

I dont understand one thing.

New Line was allready supporting Blu-ray, wasnt it?

I mean, 'Blade', 'Austin Powers', 'Dark City', 'Final Destination' to name a few are in the Blu-ray release list, and these are all form New Line.

Yeah, I noticed this too. Blu-ray also has New Line mentioned as a studio supporting them on their official website. The way I understand it, New Line is also in the Blu-ray camp.

New Line is owned by Warner who is supporting both formats. New Line recently confirmed that they will not be releasing on either HD format until 2007.

I have one question: Why the hell isn't Kill Bill a box set yet?

I haven't bought that movie because I'm sure the minute I do they'll anounce a special box set edition.

I've held off on buying any universal HDDVD's because of this.
If universal goes Blu too...I'll have no reason to own HDDVD, and No reason to buy the 360 Add on this holiday.

Will it really be Universal though? It would be great and a serious blow to HD DVD but I don't see it. Especially in light of the fiasco that was the BD launch.
I can see Universal jumping on baord in 1st quarter of 2007 if the PS3 is able to sell 6 million units as predicted but not before then.

I'm afraid with Sony's history of hype this is going to be a huge letdown for us supporters.

Agreed. I don't think they're refering to Universal or New Line.

What about Dreamworks?

They have a smallish catalog with some very key titles.

IIRC they were purchased by Paramount recently except for the animation stuff like Shrek. Don't know who owns those titles now.
